CHAPTER 7
In the morning I went out for breakfast, and found that it wasn’t just Jake and I in the house, his friend from yesterday was here again. What was his name? Oh that’s right, Chris. Mr. Smells good. I laughed at myself, but then felt embarrassed. I was in little booty shorts and a lacy cami. Oh well.
Jake nodded in my direction, but continued talking to Chris. I didn’t pay attention to their conversation. I went over and grabbed a cup of Joe with some eggs that Jake must have whipped up. Then I pulled my long hair into a ponytail and turned to face the two men.
“Good morning, Shelly” Chris said when he got a chance. His eyes were lingering on my shirt, so before I spoke I pulled up my shirt, making him blush.
“Good morning” I said politely, smiling. Underneath my polite façade I felt awkward. I had kissed Jake last night. I didn’t regret it but… it still felt weird.
“Sleep well?” Jake asked me, smiling. He was thinking about it.
“Well, after that movie it took me a while to fall asleep, but I did at some point” I said while smiling a little smile at him. He looked up at me with the same smile. Chris looked from me to him. “Anyone want coffee?” I asked.
“Nahh, we just had some” Jake said. I shrugged and gulped down my coffee. I went into my bedroom and threw on daisy dukes with a tang top. By the time I got back out Jake looked ready to go. I looked at him.
“You ready to go?”
“I wasn’t aware we were going anyware” I said jokingly, but walked over toward him, slipping on my shoes. I passed by him, and suddenly I was grabbed by the waist and got a quick but deep kiss from Jake. I instantly kissed him back, but we ended it quickly. I smiled at him, showing all of my teeth. My vampire beauties were showing but I didn’t care.
“Whoa! PDA!” Chris laughed but stopped when he saw my smile. “Nice teeth” he commented. My lips sealed shut. They were fully extended because of Chris’s blood, although I wasn’t thirsty right now. I looked away. My fangs bit into my lip and I bled a little, but I kept my lips together to keep them from poking out.
“hmm?” I mumbled, trying to look inocent.
“Damn, are you a vampire or something?” he asked I looked at him, then at Jake, who looked like he was going to have a hernia he was looking at Chris so hard. Chris’s expression went blank for a moment, and then was animated again.
“Well come on now! Don’t want to keep everyone waiting!” and he walked out of the house. I was baffled. I followed him out the door and we were off, despite my deep concern for that mans mental health.
An hour later we arrived at a bar/coffee shop. I still didn’t know why we were here, although in the front of the car Jake kept telling Chris that this was extremely unecisary, and Chris just laughed at him.
I got out, following them into the bar thing, and then was surprised by the mob of people.
“HAPPY BIRTHDAY!” a chorus of voices sang. Jake laughed and slapped Chris.
“Thanks guys” he said, smiling while going to greet everyone. I just stood there awkwardly. I hadn’t know it was his birthday, we hadn’t really talked all that much about ourselves. I wondered how long he’d know these people, and how they weren’t fooled that he wasn’t aging. I leaned against the counter at the bar and watched Jake laugh at what someone was saying to him.
“You want a drink? It’s on the house,” someone said to me. I turned toward the counter, and looked at the bartender. He looked about 25 or so, and drop dead bored.
“Yeah sure, um can I have a screw driver?” I asked. I wasn’t 21, but I never will be so it’s not like it really mattered. I smiled with my lips closed, hoping he wouldn’t card me or something.
“Sure, coming right up,” he said with a smile and went to make my fruity drink. Not two minutes later he handed me my drink and I sat on a stool, watching Jake while sipping my drink. It was delicious. I decided to do one of those “bottoms up” kind of things and chugged the rest of the glass, getting a rush of jitters.
When I put the cup down and turned around, Jake was looking at me disapprovingly. I scooted in front of the glass, trying to hide it, but knowing it was useless.
“Happy Birthday!” I said to distract him. He sat down next to me and frowned.
“Your not 21, missy,” he said. I looked at him, astonished.
“What are you, my mom?” I asked. The bartender had walked up behind me and was obviously listening while cleaning some cups.
“No I’m not your mom but it would be quite a pity if you got arrested for under aged drinking,” and he smiled at me, showing me he was joking. I rolled my eyes and sighed.
“Whoa, your not 21?” the man behind the counter asked, staring at me. “Oops! Bad move on my part! Just don’t tell my boss, okay?” he said. I giggled, nodding my head. He looked relieved and walked off to the next costumar.
“So how’d you pay for the drink?” Jake asked curiosly. I looked at him out of the corner of my eye.
“He said it was on the house, I thought maybe that it was part of the party package or something,” I said. He looked irritated.
“No, he was flirting with you,” he said, eyeing the boy with anger. I leaned my head on his shoulder, trying to calm him down. It worked, to an extent. He put his arm around my shoulders, turning his head away from the bartender.
“Hey Jakey! Long time no see!” an excited girl squeeled in front of us. I lifted my head and looked at her. She was dressed like a New York hooker, obviously trying to get guys to look at her. Unless she was a hooker.
“Hi Massie,” Jake smiled at her. I was instantly jealous.
“Ehmygod! Happy birthday! Oh, whos this? Neverseenherbefore!” she said. Wow, this girl talked fast. Her words ran together like mush and I could barely understand her.
“Oh this is Shelly, my-” he started to say, but I cut him off.
“Girlfriend,” I said with a sweet smile. I didn’t want this slut within a mile of Jake. Jake looked at me out of the corner of his eye.
“Huh,” was all she said. She was giving me the once over that girls give each other to size up the compitition. So she did like him.
“Kind of a slut, aren’t you?” Massie said to me, slowing down her words so that I could hear them. My eyes narrowed.
“You’re the one to talk,” I said. “What are you, a hooker? Who would wear an outfit like that, unless they were? Clearly, that micro mini and opac shirt are a cry for help,” I said, glaring at her. She gaped at me, apparently surprised that I had dared to go there.
“Whoa, whoa you two,” Jake said, looking startled.
“OH YEAH?” Massie shouted, silencing the whole room. Everyone looked over at us, but she didn’t seem to care. “AT LEAST I’VE GOT A GREAT BODY TO SHOW OFF!” she shouted. I was taken aback.
“He’s mine, and you keep your slutty a** away from him,” I said through my teeth. I had quite a temper, and I was about to attack this girl. She stared at me murderesly.
“He’ll be mine,” was all she said before she stalked out. I got up off my chair and walked toward the girls bathroom, leaving a stunned Jake sitting at the bar, staring after me. As soon as I walked in I noticed another woman in the bathroom. I didn’t care.
I stared at the mirror, and watched the woman in my periferials. One moment she was in the corner of the bathroom, and all of a sudden she was behind me, holding my hair by her hand. Her movement had been too fast for even my eyes to catch.
“Well, well, the little girly finally dicided to come to the girls room,” she purred. I whipped around, throwing her against the wall, and in a movement my mind couldn’t follow, and all of a sudden I was holding her to the wall by her neck.
“Who are you,” I asked. She smiled, seeming at ease. I almost would have believed it if it weren’t for the twitch in her smile.
“That’s not important, but what is,” she said, “is what the master wants, and he wants you, deary,” she spit at me. I snarled, and pushed my hand against her throat harder. She gagged, but otherwise didn’t show any pain.
“Well you tell him to back the ******** off, I’m not something he can have,” I growled at her. I took my hand back and walked out of the bathroom, her following.
“Be reasonable,” she began. “If you don’t come willingly, there will be trouble,” she threatened. I laughed without humor.
“I can handle myself, so you just tell him that it’s on,” I said, which probably wasn’t very smart of me. She grabbed my wrist, yanking so hard that I turned around to face her.
“Just because your special, doesn’t mean you can fight him off,” she said through slit eyes. I was about to tell her that I wasn’t special, when Jake showed up behind her.
“You have two seconds to let go of Shelly, Maria, before I rip your head off, no leave,” he said firmly. She let go right away, but kept the arrogant face while turning to face him. She ran a finger down his chest, and gave him a mischievious smile.
“You’d never do that, would you?” and then she disappeared through the wall. I let out my breath, which I hadn’t known I was holding. Jake snarled at the wall, and then looked at me.
“So, who was that?” I asked casually, heading back to the party. He stopped me, pulling on my wrist. I really wish people would stop doing that.
“Maria, that’s who,” he said grimly. I faced him, looking up to his face without expression. “They know where you are now, so we will have to be carefull.”
“She didn’t seem too scary,” I said.
“She’s special, like you are.”
“I’m not special,” I blurted. He rolled his eyes, and I could see that he was dropping the subject.
“So, I’m yours am I?” If I could have blushed, I would have. As it was, my eyes dropped to the floor.
“Sorry, I was just angry at her,” I muttered. I felt his arm wrap around my shoulders again, and then he turned me toward him. I looked up, to find his face much closer then I had expected. He kissed me, just lightly. I smiled.
“Don’t be sorry, it was cute.”
“Oh really?”
“Yep, and I think it’s sexy when girls take control of the relationship, you know, the status and everything, cuz now you’re my girl,” he said and smiled real big. “Now I know what to introduce you as, I wasn’t sure if friend would work.” I laughed and hugged him.
“Wooo! That is the fineist a** I have ever seen!” someone said behind me with a whistle. I frowned. Then I felt a smack were the compliment had been aimed and I spun around, about ready to slap him silly, but Jake restrained me. He’s drunk, Jake said in my mind. I was startled, but I understood.
“Well, thank you, sir,” I said, forcing a smile. This was gong to be uncomfortable. More drunk men were crowding around me.
“Hey, hey! Come ova here sweetie, and I’ll keep you company,” one said.
“Wooo, hooo! Those shorts will be easy to get into!” another said. I felt very uncomfortable now. Jake must of done his brain thingy, because all of a sudden they all past out on the floor, a couple snoring. Thanks, I thought toward Jake, trying to do what he did.
“Your welcome,” he said outloud, staring at the men with discust.
