I woke up and the house was on fire.
It terrified me, which is kind of obvious because that is the reaction of any sane person. I jumped, screaming for Lizzie. She rounded the corner, tears making streaks on her smokey face. I start to run towards her, arms outstretched, but she kept getting farther away. I'm screaming by now, and I keep running. Then I stopped, and tried running backwards. It irritated me how she got closer.
I scooped her up, and looked for the door. I started running backwards when I saw it, and when I came through, I was looking at a mirror. I thought wildly that I was having a bad reaction to advil, like some freakish high. Because on the other side of that mirror, Caleb stood there. It was a blurry mirror, and I wondered if I was losing consciousness. Caleb stepped up to the mirror, and jestered behind me. I hesitated, dreading what I would find, and saw a seemless whiteness. No, wait, there was a break it the whiteness. A bit of orange...
Fire raged towards me and Lizzie, and I whipped around, pounding on the mirror with one hand as I attempted to support Lizzie with the other. Caleb smiled wickedly on the other side of the mirror. I shivered despite the heat. Caleb crossed his arms impatiently, and watched my efforts. I started screaming, but the scream froze in my throat, suffocating me. I pounded on the mirror, as if that would help the scream that blocked my throat. The mirror finally broke, and blood dripped down my arm. Caleb's smile faded quickly, and he covered his face. He turned around and ran, and I tore apart the mirror. Caleb was running away, but he was stuck by the rules of this place, and ended up coming towards me. I grabbed him with my hand, leaving blood on his arm. He looked terrified.
He looked from me to his arm and back again, and yelled something that I couldn't hear in this soundless place. Terror was growing in his eyes, and he tried to pry my hand away. But I was mad.
Why hadn't he helped me?
Someone came up behind him, and looked exactly like him. This new guy grinned that same evil grin, and I realized that the person who hadn't helped me was this guy. He leaned down to my hand, and pryed it off of Caleb's arm easily. He squeezed it, and I screamed as my fingers snapped and broke one by one. He put a finger to his lips, telling me to stop screaming. Blood dripped down his chin, and he smiled. I grabbed Caleb and ran backwards, and Caleb just whispered to himself "why, brother?"
I woke up, for real this time, and smelt french toast. I tried to shake the dream from my head, but I couldn't get that evil grin out of my mind. I walked into the kitchen, and Lizzie was dusting some french toast carefully with icing sugar.
I hugged her, and Caleb just smiled. It wasn't evil. He would have to explain this dream to me soon. I didn't care if I would sound crazy.
