My mother pulled up into the parking lot of the large building and parked in front. She turned the car off and rolled down the windows to get some air in the car. I watched her for a moment before turning my head to look out the window. I heard her light up a ciggeret and shook my head. She always complained about money problems to me when I asked for something. Then again she has enough money for smokes plus she goes out and buys a brand new Ferrari. A Ferrari! I mentally cursed her and rubbed my eyes. "Harmony..." my mother said, placing her hand on my shoulder.
I didn't turn my head to her. "Yes?" I asked.
She didn't respond immediately, but waited a couple seconds and took her hand off my shoulder. "Doctor Kurt said he had something fun planned for today. He said he noticed how upset you've been for the past visitations and wanted to cheer you up. So please tell him thank you afterwards." I cringed a little. Something to cheer me up? Hah. What a joke. I wanted to laugh at my mother, but held it in. We sat in the car for a moment, waiting for my mom to finish her smoke before we went inside. As we entered the building I began to feel very uncomfortable. My mother had a smile on her face as we proceeded though the sliding doors and into the seating area. That's when I saw him, the devil himself. His angelic face was nothing but a fake and he smiled kindly at my mother and I.
"Hello Ms. Mitchell. Harmony," he nodded towards me. I saw the evilness in his eyes and turned away from him. I listened to my mother giggle and apologize to him and talk to him. I mentally shuttered at the attempted flirting that was coming from her mouth and him flirting back. "Well Ms. Mitchell, Harmony and I have things to do now, so if you don't mind," Kurt said in a seductive voice, placing his hand on my shoulder.
I brushed off his hand and walked towards the elevator. I could her my mother behind me sigh and make another apology. Couldn't we just get this over and done with? I was tired of waiting. But, like my wish was granted, I saw a hand reach out and push the elevator button. So I was alone with him now. I turned around and saw my mother walking out the door, and looked up at Doctor Kurt. He smiled down at me, his blond hair shining in the bright lights. "How are you today Harmony?" He asked me in a kind voice. How fake could someone be?
I only shrugged and stepped into the small elevator when the doors opened. Kurt stepped in after me, keeping a wachful eye on me. I looked away from him, but the silver walls around me only reflected him looking back at me. So, I proceeded to look at the floor till the doors opened and I rushed out. I was heading towards the white room with the chair until he placed his hand on my shoulder and guided me to another room I looked up at him, confused, and he only smiled back down at me. "We're going to my office for today. Our room is being cleaned at the moment." I nodded and looked back down at the ground. Why was I suddenly so nervous? Usually I was okay. But, I just had a sudden wave of panic come over me. I tried shaking off the feeling when we walked into his office and I sat in the chair across from his desk. He sat down in his big comfy chair across from me and began going through his papers.
His office was pretty nice. The walls were a pale beige with many degrees and certificates hanging around. He had a couple of pictures on his desk. One of them in particular caught my attention. It was a pleasent picture of a young woman, whom was very beautiful, sitting down on the edge of a large fountain in the middle of a rose garden. As I reached for it, Kurt pulled the picture away, and without looking at it, placed it face down into his file cabinet. I stared at him until he turned around and his eyes met mine. I didn't look away this time, and my stare soon turned into more of a glare. He chuckled at me and stood up, coming to stand beside my chair. "Dear Harmony, you amuse me differently everytime you visit," he whispered, like dripping acid.
I sat, as calmly as I could, in the chair chipping away at my blue nail polish. "My mother told me you had something fun planned for today. So what is it?" I asked, my voice dropping an octive lower. I felt his hand smooth my hair back behind my ear and I swatted his hand away, standing up in the process.
"You can sit back down love," he said backing away some, "we're going to have tons of fun today." He walked back around his desk and pressed a button on his phone. A couple of seconds later, a nurse appeared at the door, startling me. I didn't even hear her footsteps coming down the hall, let alone know that someone was even on this floor. Doctor Kurt smiled at her. "Liz, could you be a dear and get Miss Harmony's new medication for today?" His voice poored out like velvet. The nurse blushed and nodded, walking back down the hall. There again, I couldn't hear footsteps. What did he have in mind for today? New medication?
The nurse came back a few minutes later, with two more women by her side, and handed Doctor Kurt something. I couldn't see what it was, nor did I have any interest. The two newest nurses stood on either side of me, and Liz stood next to Kurt. I didn't like where this was going at all. He looked into Liz's eyes for a moment, like he was telling her something, then he looked back to me, with a smug smile on his face. "The time has come sweet Harmony." What the heck?
I felt a knot in the back of my throat, and stiffened in my chair. The two nurses' hands came down on my arms and my eyes widened. "What the hell is going on?" I demanded. I looked to their faces for some sign, but they were blank, emotionless. I glared up at the beautiful blond devil and spat. "b*****d, what are you doing?" I screamed.
Kurt walked towards me, his hands in his pocket. "I have waited for years dear Harmony, to finally send you to your grave," he laughed. "Finally my master has ordered for you to be eliminated." He pulled out his hands from his pocket, and inside his left hand was a large syringe. "Now, you will die, and we will be able to rule over our world and your own!"
I couldn't speak. I was in such shock I didn't know what to do. I was struggling, but to no advail. The nurses hold on my arms was like iron bars holding me down. What did I do to deserve this? And what was he babbling about. My eyes slowly raked up his tall figure and looked at his face. "I.... don't undertand," I stammered out. I felt tears began to build up and shook my head.
He laughed again and smiled. "No need for you to understand. But I'm sure in the afterlife they will explain." My head dropped. I felt his hand caress my face and I bit down, as hard as I could. I could feel something trickle into my mouth, something cold and thick, but his back handed me before I could register what it was.
"I am trying to make this easier on you. A quick and painless death. But if you want to fool around I can make it hurt like hell," he growled, holding his hand to his chest. I spat out at him, now tasting my own blood in my mouth.
"Hurt me then," I responded in a confident voice.
"With pleasure." As he raised his hand, with the long syringe in it to strike, the lights went out. I could hear the nurses scream and I felt them release my arms.
"Dammit! Run Harmony!" A voice called out in the darkness. And I did what it told me. I got out of the seat and took off out of the office. I didn't stop running through the dark, but felt my way down the stairs. I could hear voices behind me. Scarry voices like growling and screams. It frightened me so much I picked up my pace. When I made it down to the first level and stopped to catch my breath, I heard a hiss behind me and began running again.
Out the double doors and across the parking lot I went. Through the large bushes and into the dark forest across from the building, the voices slowly fading away.
