Yesterday, the day before today, was my birthday. Yesterday, the day before today, my parents had sung “Happy Birthday” to me. Yesterday, the day before today, I had a birthday cake that was so big and tasty and on it were the words “ Happy 10th Birthday Elaine”. Yesterday, the day before today, was the happiest day of my life. Today, the day after yesterday, was the worst and last day of my life. My life ended a little after I had been sent to bed. A little after 8:00pm. A little after I heard my mom scream in horror.
I ran to my door opened it a crack. There, with his back to me, that man. The one who was a spawn of Satan, a thing a creature, a monster, the one who stole my life. He was holding my mom in his left hand and in his right he held a knife covered in some red liquid. His eyes were crinkled at the edges and looking down at my mom with hatred. It looked like he was smiling but I couldn’t tell. The bottom half of his face was covered with the same black clothe that his clothes were using. My mom, my 28-year-old beautiful mom, was fighting against his hold on her. Her wavy dark brown hair was in a braid and splattered with a red liquid. Her brown face pale and also splattered with that same red liquid so was her favorite blue dress. Her bright hazel eyes staring at her unknown captor with horror, sadness, and anger. At her and her captor’s feet was my father. His honey brown hair soaked in that red liquid. His pale white face was paler than normal also with that red liquid that was covering everything and everyone. His gray-blue eyes were wide in shock, glazed over, and staring at nothing. He was lying in a pool of that red liquid. With a gasp I realized what that liquid was and why my mind was refusing to accept what I saw. The red liquid was blood. At my gasp my father’s murderer looked in my direction. I backed away from the door but made sure I could still see my mom. When he stopped looking around I crept back toward the door. I instantly regretted it. The murderer stabbed my mom. My mom…my dad...dead.
I shut my door, locked it, then stumbled toward my phone and dialed 911. How I did that I shall never find out because I couldn’t see. I heard someone answer the phone. “Yes?” the person sounded distant. “My mom and my dad…both my parents they’ve been murdered.” I sounded equally distant. I think the person replied but I wasn’t registering anything anymore. All my senses stopped working and everything went black.
