I tiptoed down the stairs, I could hear the music more clearly now. It seemed close, I walked into the ballroom. The sound seemed to be radiating from within. That’s when I saw him, he was sitting barefoot outside in the cold winter air. His deep brown cello was resting on his shoulder while his eyes shut tightly deep in concentration. His hair was tangled and tousled by the unforgiving wind. I stopped breathing for a moment; the room around me was beginning to spin. I could hear and see nothing but his music, I ran out quickly hoping he hadn’t heard the fast paced beating of my heart.
I was at the tender age of twelve when I had first seen that man and now on my sixteenth birthday, I stand on that same balcony hoping to see what has become of him. I hadn’t seen him in four years, and the years had hopefully done him justice. Now that I was being presented into society I would hope to see him more often.
“There he is” one of my dearest friends Alice said trying to point inconspicuously at the man in the dark long coat that had just entered the room behind the Malicia Family but failing horribly. I held my breath; his hair was as dark as I remembered it, his face just as intriguing.
“He’s gorgeous” she giggled bouncing up and down. I turned away from his captivating face to watch Alice melt at the very idea of him coming closer. Alice moved behind me, as my guest came to say hello suddenly shy.
“Miss Hollandale” Mr. Malice smiled taking my hand. I nodded politely, looking to his wife who curtsied before me. “Miss Hollandale” my mystery man said in his dark, smooth voice borderline memorizing.
I looked down at my hand as he took it, placing his lips gently on my middle knuckle. I felt my face flush red, at the feeling of his lips against my flesh.
“I pray that we might dance together later.” I nodded watching him let go of my hand and walk away. He looked just as I remembered him that night. His hair just as dark, his skin still the color of fresh cream, his eyes as vibrant a blue as ever imaginable.
My breathing became shallow; I could still feel the fire his lips left on my skin. “I think I need to sit, Alice” I whispered. A broad smile appeared on her lips, “Follow me”. She slipped her hand into mine and lead me to the kitchen where several tables of food where spread out.
“Here drink this” Alice handed me cup of wine, after taking a sip I smiled weakly at Alice. “Better?” she ask, I nodded. “Do you even know his name?” Alice asked picking up a tart and placing it in her mouth. I shook my head slowly, glancing around the room hoping to see him.
“I never bothered to ask” “Well maybe you should, Emily. You don’t even know the mans name or who his family is and you’ve already fallen head over heels for him.”
“I have not” I sighed looking away from the large groups of people around me, and towards the opened balcony doors. I could feel Alice roll her eyes when I didn’t turn back to her, “Say what you like but I know you better then most people. And I know when you’ve fallen for-” she stopped speaking causing me to back at her.

Description:
Hey, this is the beginning of a story that I am currently working on. It was inspired by a picture my younger sister drew (I would have posted it up here for you to see, but she is horribly afraid of people stealing her art.). Any who I'm a budding writer, so critiquing is encouraged.
