After twenty minutes of hearing Luke praise himself I snapped, "Okay! I get it! You're the information master!" I don't know if it's because it's Luke or if I just don't like being shown up, but if I hear him say how great he is one more time... Well, let's just say it won't be pretty.
"What's with you?" Luke asked.
"Nothing." I mumbled, "Forget I said anything." I looked out my window at the deteriorated part of Ripstin. It would be depressing if I didn't know that there was a brighter side of the city just around the corner.
Just then, my partner started to grin, "You're just jealous."
"If you don't want to lose your teeth, I suggest you shut up."
****
It felt like we'd been driving for hours at this rate. Luke had stopped talking completely and I felt like a jerk. Maybe I had been a little too harsh.
"We're almost there." He said, stopping the car. I shook my head, waking myself up form la la land.
I stared at him, "Why did we stop here?"
"Well, " Luke started, "If Adrian is as paranoid about you as we think he is..."
The lightbulb went on in my head, "He'll have my car up on lookout by goons at the front." Luke simply nodded as he put the car into park.
"How do we get in there?" He asked, "Disguises?" What was this, some spy movie? What was he talking about? I must have had this look on my face because he then said, "He'll probably have people looking for us, too. Maybe if we do a gender switch..."
"Gender switch?" I asked, raising my eyebrow, "You mean I dress up like a guy?"
He replied, his voice full of confidence, "Yeah, and I dress up like a girl."
My eyebrow went up even higher, "You have the stuff to do this?"
"Well," he started, "I do in my bag." Besides the fact that I hadn't even notice him throw a bag in the car, the idea that he had a disguise kit in there was just strange. He opened the bag and I could see a fake wig, breasts and clothes. Weird.
"What do you think?" He asked. I didn't know what was creepier. The fact that he had this stuff or that he carried it around with him. I mean, I've needed to keep a low profile before, but this was a little much.
Luke handed me a pile of baggy clothes, giving me a sign to get dressed. He then turned his head the other way, trying to give me some privacy.
As I took my shirt off, I huffed, "I can't believe I'm actually doing this..."
