Jentation City was alive and well. It was 12:00pm and the city was alive with cars, people, subways, and loud noises. Jersey jumped off the 23 bus going north and entered onto the Jentation Plaza. The floor was a deep grey concrete with small patches of grass, flowers, and a shrub or tree set up to make it feel more lie nature. But truth was, nothing in Jentation City was nature-y. It was an industrial center, fast businesses, large apartments, and many, many taxis. Jentation Plaza was were all major evens tended to be held, it was spacious and generally clean. Around the Plaza, apartment buildings were towering over one another in 'hip' 'fashionable' designs.
Grundgy little Jersey Cerberus didn't quiet fit the profile as he stepped off the bus. A dirty green backpack, bounced up and down as he walked. Apparently, there was a festival. 'For what?' he asked himself, but a large sign that four people has just put up answered his question. Jentation Music Festival! it read in glowing letters. "Seriously?" he said shaking his head, he would have to put up with has-been musical artists all day and night now. It sucked. He pushed past a few people who were setting up. He mumbled an apology, but really he just wanted to get home.
Where did he live? There was an old apartment that hadn't been occupied for a while. It would seem no one wanted to live in a place that bordered around the loudest part of town. I wonder why? Jersey had no real home, he was a hobo. But that's not all he was, he was a Mover. A few years ago that meant nothing, but now, it meant everything. If you were Kinetic, you had a target on your back. If you were Kinetic, you were different.
Before the Controllers had moved in, the streets were littered with crazy Minders and Feelers unable to control their very unstable powers. Gangs of Flamers and Icers ran the streets. But that was all different now, everyone was in hiding, everything was a secret. He looked around the Plaza at all the people, normal people. He took a deep breath he just wanted to get home before she was caught by a feeler.
The wind whipped around his body, caressing every curve with its warm kiss as he walked around the city watching the horizon as the sun made a play for the other side of the planet. The beauty was astounding as torrents of oranges and yellows were assaulted by armies of blues and purples, a siege of beauty. Tuffs of cotton-like clouds slowly dissipated as their darker and more harsh cousins began to blanket the sky. He brought his pale hand up to his hair and dragged four fingers through her tresses of ebony. It was beautiful, this city, with the colors dancing in the sky and people not hindering her view of it.
There was a sallow glow of the disappearing sun cast a sickly yellow tint to his pale skin as he stood, his head now tilted to the people beneath him. Alas, people were scurrying down the street, casting long shadows as they neared the lighting provided by the street lamps that flickered on, shorter shadows as the moved away. They hurried, afraid to be caught by whatever lurked in the shadows, whatever was kin or enemy to him. Regardless, he was hungry and partially drunk the city lights and the noise just made him have a migraine. His hands collapsed over his ears as the light grew intense as his head throbbed he thought he was going to buckle from all the pain but he kept calm for the time being.
His body was tall, about 6''4', and slender in the extreme. He had long, thin arms, and a body that would break a girls heart just by being in the same room as her. His long, straight, unnatural dark red hair was worn around his face rather than short and loose like many guys in this era. He kept himself dressed in fashionable clothing, loving to look his best, needing to blend in with the times since his style was more old school then new school. It seemed the neo fashion was in these days yet he was not old at all he just felt form another time like he was supposed to be as old as his mother. He wore long blue levies and a short sleeved black shirt with writing, something that would never go out of style. On his feet he were just normal black skater shoes with ivory white skulls on the sides, yet the only thing different about him was the mask he had to wear at all times.
It wasn’t long until the sun was completely set. As the nightlife began to move amongst the streets of the city, gangs stalking the night, overworked and underpaid employees going to bars, the occasional late night walkers, he let his body fall back into the shade as his petite frame created a small and slender shadow on the walls, as he moved through them, able to see and hear whatever was happening out of his little ‘world’.
He took a few steps into the Plaza, he had spent his day doing magic tricks on the street for money. He needed something to pay the bills. And by bills, I mean food. Festivals usually had good food, but they usually had police and a few Controllers to keep everything under control. The faster he was out of here the better.
Near the Plaza was a park were he could eat his lunch, which was filled with food and eat. He tried hard not to think about Controllers though, if there were any Minders about. In a world were certain people could read your thoughts, it really made some people paranoid. But not Jersey. He really didn't spend his days censoring his thoughts unless there was a serious threat.
He ran into a teenager who was with a group of others. "I'm sorry" he said, but they all looked at him very angrily. When they turned and left, he could see a small flame tattoo in the corner of one of their ears. They were a gang of Flamers, Jersey Devil assumed. He didn't really want to mess with Kinetic gangs. They often had a grudge against many people, lived for themselves, and had nothing to lose.
"I really...am sorry." he said looking away.
It got busier as he walked and that only made him try and focus more on going home, or eating. He didn't know what he wanted to do. Watching the festival would seem weird, but having lunch in a busy park? That wasn't weird. He would be another grungy guy eating food near the festival. He pushed his red hair out of his line of vision. The mask on his face was starting to make the skin under it itch, good quality masks that could keep you alive was hard to come-by without a job.
But Jersey Devil had gotten good at lifting things, shoplifting that is. But he never really felt right about doing it. His mother had taught him never to use his gifts to steal, because it was so easy. His mother... Jersey Devil was content with believing she was dead, it would do him no good to assume she was alive and suffering. Maybe Cassandra was thinking of him? If she was alive that is. Wouldn't it be weird if she was thinking the same thing? Being content that I had gotten away.
Jersey shook the ideas from his head. His mother was dead, he had lunch, it was time to chow down. Usually, the ghost of Cassandra Cerberus didn't enter Jersey's thoughts until night time, or Christmas. It was weird that's she sneak into his thoughts now. Jersey dodged another person, a female Neo with bright green hair. He had to admit that this new Neo craze was really fun. He had to pay more attention though of where he was going?
Home or the park? he decided on home. He wouldn't be in the open, he would be able to see if any Minders had heard him. But when did that ever happen? Not often, in her apartment, he was usually safe. The grungy Mover yawned and lifted his backpack onto his back, "Alright." he said aloud cracking his neck, "Lunch time..."
