SKY
Chapter 1
Kisa
I bowled over laughing at the boy sitting across from me.
“What?” The boy asked, taken aback by my instantaneous laughter.
“Your face!” I giggled.
“What’s wrong with it?”
“You look like you’ve never seen a girl before!”
“Well, none with wings…”
This was our first meeting. The boy is named Shishou. He has black hair and a slight tan. Over all, pretty good-looking. Then again, he is the first person I’ve ever seen, at least in 14 years… Yes, I have wings. Brownish tan wings that end in a smooth point, like the falcons of the sky. I was named Kisa by Hachi-ko, a small, golden fennec fox. She taught me everything I know. Well, she and Shishou, that is. Hachi and I live in a huge sandy place that Hachi calls the Sahara desert. Shishou told me that he was sent by a dream to leave the orphanage. He came from in search of the ‘Desert Angel.’ I guess that he was sent to look for me. He needs to go to a place called Ngorongoro. I guess that it was part of his dream. I guess another odd quirk of mine is that I can hear, and talk back to animals, like Hachi. Shishou thought that it was weird that I could understand her, but without her, I wouldn’t be here. I owe my life to her. Besides, she has an awesome sense of sarcasm and wit. Man, I love that dog.
“Hey, Kisa, the sun is going to kill us soon.” Hachi looked at me with wide dusty gold eyes underneath her huge golden ears. With a fluid movement, I sliced open a cactus and carefully slid it in front of her while simultaneously shielding them from the sun with my wings. She could be bossy, but I adored her, so it didn’t matter. I wasn’t affected by the weather; the heat didn’t harm me as much as it could a regular human, or a fennec fox.

I fell, face first, in the cold snow. I got up, coughing. I glared at the little cub who was the cause of my fall. Hiro barked happily, while his sister, Hikita, followed my icy glare and glared at him with a sadistically cute glare that would never have worked if he were human. The huge white figure of Chikara twitched in annoyance. Babysitting polar bear cubs was not easy or fun when their mother was 3 feet away, seal fishing. I batted Hiro with a soft white wing and he wailed in false sorrow. He was not making this easy on me! If he continued this childish act, all of the seals would be scared away. Sensing my thoughts, Hikita threw snow in his face. At least one polar bear understood. A splash of icy cold water sent me back to Chikara. With a smooth movement, her great paw snapped the seals neck in half. At least this family would be fed tonight. I left them with the gory business of feeding. I could catch my own meal later.
I felt the cold sensation of water whirling around me. I dove deeper, enjoying the water in my wings. I knew that I’d need to preen them later, so I might as well enjoy myself. I couldn’t die from the cold, so I didn’t care too much about the freezing water. Air was another thing that I could do without for extended periods of time. I watched happily as fish swam past me, used to my presence. An orca whizzed past me, the force of the water tickling me and pushing me back. I laughed without fear, for this was my home.
I jumped from the water, catching currents with my wings, swinging me into the air. I had never been this far from land, and I didn’t intend to go far, this was me, Koori of the ice.

“Hyaaaa!” I felt the blood of my enemies splatter my sword. I licked away the salty liquid, teasing them. “Come on, that all you got leeches?” I smiled and sat in wait on the floor of the warehouse. “Do you ever get better? It seems to me that you just keep getting worse!” That drew out the last creature of the night. Blood red eyes glared at me and he smiled a fanged smile.
“I’ve never had bird before. So, birdie, are you ready to die?” he said smoothly, the words like wet silk flowing from his mouth. But, I had killed better, so I wasn’t unnerved. He was mildly attractive, slick black hair pulled into a low ponytail at the nape of his neck. He looked like the stereotypical vampire, including the cape. I sneered. Lovely fashion sense you got there, mister. I felt a probing sensation enter my mind, but effortlessly pushed it away. Probably a mental attack. It must have been a strong one at that, because I usually didn’t feel the attempts.
“Over my dead body!” I said icily.
“That’s the point.” He sighed and lunged for me. I took a step to the right and rose into the air, my night black wings maneuvering my body. There had been many vampires here, so now I had less to deal with in this world. Once I was finished here, I would probably visit Europe. France, maybe. Or maybe even Italy. I am Raven, the vampire slayer. Self-proclaimed, but that was the world’s problem.
“Die, Bloodsucker!” I screamed at him.
“Do you even have a right to call me that when you licked the blood from your sword?” he said calmly, way too calmly.
“DIE, LEECH!” I dove for his sneering body.

yes, i do realize that Polar bears don't live in Antarctica. I wrote this brfore i learned that, and by that time, the polar bear seemed the perfect companion for Koori, so i will need to change it, so could you please give me some suggestions? although, truth-be-told, i'm not about to make them penguins. they just aren't as fun to have with babysitting...it just doesn't really work out>.< oh well, please share your opinion, i would love it! tyty
