• PRIMORDIAL

    Prologue:
As I walked through the caves, i found myself pondering how a creature so ancient, from such a primordial world, could live so long in these caves. A flash came into my head: leathery skin, a man's painful screams, sharp, dripping bloody teeth on my arm. A spill. Chemicals burning my arm, the beast running back into the hole it sprouted from. As it fled, its thick tail slapped a support beam, the beam collapsed, pinning me to the wall. Darkness fluctuating in my vision, light fading, arm healing, skin changing color, strength suddenly flowed through me. in a desperate attempt, I pushed as hard as I could, shoving the beam away from me with all my strength. it flew into the opposite wall. had i not just seen this beast, that would have stunned me. but i was already panicked, so I ran. I got out of the room, ran a distance away from the wreckage of the laboratory in which the accident had occurred. I ran until I could run no more. I collapsed on the ground, leaned against the wall. My skin had returned to normal, blood steadily began to drain out of my wound again. My vision nearly gone, I slowly lost strength, tipped to the side, and passed out.

I shook my head, and sat against the wall, my ears ringing from the flashback, I rested my eyes for a few seconds. I wondered weather Emily was still alive or not. I stood up, anger filled my thoughts. I had sensed it. claws scraping a few yards away, dark brown leathery skin rubbing against the rock walls. Juvenile. Not quite mature enough to sneak up on the prey.

Something leaped, its claws scratching deep into the rock it pounced from. straight towards my back. I spun around in a flash, grabbed the young beast by the neck. it tried clawing at me, I merely threw it into the wall, near where it jumped from. It floundered and struggled for a moment, to get back onto its feet. Once it succeeded, it turned to me. Exposing its gleaming white razor-like teeth, it snarled at me. I merely stared back, daring it to try again.

It stood a full head above me, at 7 feet tall. I was merely 5'8", and yet I dared the beast to come for me. It growled and snarled, finally charging me. I quickly turned to dodge its claws, but it had something else in mind. It feigned claws, and swept its tail under my feet. I crashed to the ground, exposed. The beast roared, it's monstrous voice echoing throughout the caves. It struck down, toward my underbelly. I moved. Rolled backwards onto my head, and pushed up with my hands, into a handstand. The sound of the creatures claws on the stone floor was horrible. It paused, confused. Fatal mistake. I moved again, wrapping my feet around it's long neck, i spun, heard the crack of bone.

As the beast fell to the ground, dead, i stood up, and went to my pack, where I had left it the first time the creature tried to strike me. I put the pack on my back, and continued into the caves, walking right over the dead raptor.
