Hania took a couple of deep breaths, in their hotel room, before looking up at the pacing figure in front of her.
“They didn’t give a time...” he paused. “Well, yeah. Clean the place out, otherwise they’re going to get blown up.” he was talking to the men back at HQ on his pre-paid phone. The actual device was literally untraceable and impossible to bug.
“Illegal immigrants or not, Rowen, we can’t just blow them up!” he growled, snapping his phone shut. He sighed, coming to sit with Hania on the bed.
“Rowen ain’t gunna le’ us blow up dose peeps, in’t ‘e?” she asked slowly, but got no answer as Kam opened his phone and called HQ again.
“No, I don’t want to talk to Rowen again. No, take me to the head of immigration... Yes I’ll hold.” he hissed, getting up and pacing again. He sighed.
“Rowan’s letting us blow them up, but I’m not. I’ll get immigration over there.” he said, before getting a reply from immigration.
He started to explain, whilst Hania sighed, flopping down onto the soft cover and closing her eyes again. Her weapons lay on the dressing table on the other side of the room, and she was dressed back into a comfortable pair of dark overalls. A black t-shirt was worn underneath it, and she was ready to leave. Well, she was physically ready to leave, but her emotions still clouded her vision and there was no chance of her blowing up an estate with people still there. She opened her eyes and her eyes flew to the clock they had set on the windowsill. The bomb lay next to it, along with a written sheet of instructions on how to set it ready to blow. They had around 5 minutes to get out of the place then, enough to leg it around the corner and away from the after blast of the explosion. The clock read half past five. They had half an hour until their arranged time with Chrivae. She sighed again, feeling the bed creak a little as Kam sat back down. He was off the phone, finally. She got up to look at him. His face was more relaxed and relieved, and she perked up.
“Dey clearin’ the area?” she asked in a high, hopeful voice. He smiled, nodding.
“They’re going to do it as quietly as they can, so no-one will notice. They’ll leave music players and TVs on, we’ll be safe.” he said, helping Hania get up. She looked around and sighed. The floor in their room was gleaming hardwood whilst the walls were aqua with a border of dark green along the top. Cigar smoke was almost imperceptible, though the abrupt blasts of air from the open window dissipated it. She hated the stupid two-star hotels; they always stank of tobacco and the rooms always consisted of clashing colours and looked generally horrible. But, with their edited persona, they couldn’t afford anywhere better. Staying in that wreck of a hotel was in their contract. Kam nudged Hania back into reality with his elbow, nodding his back to the door.
“We’ve got twenty minutes to walk there and ten minutes to set up, there’s not a chance we’ll manage that if we sit here waiting.” he said, walking slowly to pick up the bomb and place it in a backpack which he slung over his shoulder. He then picked up their guns, throwing one to Hania before pocketing his. The girl caught hers, pocketing it too.
“Eh, youse just be makin’ sure dat dat... thin’ dun’t go off in yer bag.” she said dryly, opening the door and holding it open for him. He smiled, passing her and waiting in the hall for her to lock their door. Fumbling with the key, she heard the latch click. She nodded, looking up at Kam and sighing.
“let’s us go an’ blow up a council estate.” she said in a tired tone, even though her heart was racing. They better get everyone out the estate, otherwise things could get very messy. They walked silently out and down the street, neither of them willing to break the foreboding silence.
