Chapter 3: Surprise?
Christy got up, got ready, and got into her little blue car like she did every other school day. She drove to school, got into her locker, put her books in and….
“WOAH!” Christy shouted. “When did you get there?”
“Obviously while you were putting you books away,” replied Isaac.
“Smart a**,” Christy muttered.
“Hey, I was wondering if you wanted to hang out after school today.”
“I would love to, but I’m painting my room today. I’ve wanted to since I moved in, which was a month ago. If you want to, you could still come over and help with that. Hopefully, it won’t take long. We could go anywhere you want afterwards, too.”
“That would be great! Count me in.”
“Just be sure to wear your junkiest outfit, and you don’t mind a couple of paint stains. You can bring better clothes with you, so when we’re done you can change, if you want.”
“Ok, thanks for the advice. I honestly would have forgotten if you wouldn’t have told me.”
The school day was completely normal. The only thing that wasn’t normal is how they sat at lunch. They just told Christy the rule they’ve had since the beginning of freshman year. Every month, they have to change their seats.
“It just kind of mixes things up, you know? I hate when things are just absolutely normal,” said Lindsay.
The worst part is they already had a pattern picked out, because that is the same pattern they always follow. Lucky for Christy, she just happened to sit between the two guys, Isaac on her left and Travis on her right.
After school, Christy and Isaac went to Christy’s house. Right as they walked in, her parents noticed him.
“Oh, who’s this, Christy?” questioned her mother.
“This is Isaac. He’s going to help me paint my room.”
“Right, like that’s all he’s going to do,” doubted her father, casting a glance over at Isaac.
“Yeah, that IS all he’s going to do. We better get started before we run out of time,” rushed Christy.
“Nice to have met you, Mr. and Mrs.Hapshaw,” Isaac politely left with Christy.
The two people proceeded to Christy’s room and started to move all of the furniture out of the room and covered everything remaining, including the floor. First, they started with the “boring part” where they just painted the walls black. Then came the best part: splattering. All her parents could hear was their laughter, and they knew that there was probably a huge mess that would need to be cleaned up.
Once they were done, Christy came out and her parents’ jaws dropped. She was covered in splotches of paint. There were shades of blues, greens, purples, pinks, and reds. She looked like a modified rainbow. They immediately knew Isaac couldn’t have looked much different.
“Umm… how do we clean ourselves up?” Christy asked her mother.
“Well, I’ll tell you after you go to the mall. If you’re going to make such a big mess, you can take it public. Also, you have to wear those clothes when you go. You have to take pictures so I know you’ve been there. Get going!” her mother demanded, and Christy knew she was serious.
“Isaac, we’re going to mall now in these clothes!” Christy shouted, hoping he could hear her through the door.
Isaac got out of the room, Christy grabbed her camera, and they both got into the car. They started going to the mall, and got into a very serous conversation. When they were almost at the mall, there was a strange silence. Not awkward, but strange, as if something was hanging there, just waiting to be said. Isaac turned to Christy as they pulled in.
“I wanted to ask you something.” Isaac said.
Christy turned and looked him in the eyes. After a short silence that said she was listening, he continued. “Christy… will you…. go out with me?”
This question slightly surprised Christy, even though she new it shouldn’t have. She knew the answer she had to give almost as soon as he said it; because it was the only word her mind knew.
“Yes!” she answered excitedly.
They went through the mall and took pictures of them everywhere. They even asked people to take pictures with them, and the people usually accepted. They could hear snickers and giggles of some of the people they passed. They decided since they already looked stupid, they might as well act stupid. They would jump around in the halls of the mall, making loud noises as they passed the stores. Sometimes, they would try to get people to join them, and once in a while, a couple people would say yes, but wouldn’t stay with them long. Once they were done, they got into the car and headed back to Christy’s house because that is where his car was. They realized that all this running around was actually pretty tiring, and they were completely out of energy.
They pulled into the driveway and Christy turned to Isaac.
“This honestly has been the best night I’ve ever had, and I’m definitely not just saying that,” Christy told him.
“Me too,” Isaac agreed.
Her beautiful dark blue eyes met his green eyes. He leaned in, and gave her their first kiss.
“Well, I’ll see you tomorrow at school,” he said, getting out of the car.
“Bye,” was the only word Christy could think of. She walked back into her room, and went to sleep, not caring that she was still completely covered in paint. She felt like she was in heaven, as if reality couldn’t come near her anymore.
The next morning she woke up, and remembered about the paint. She took paint thinner, put it all over the skin that was covered in paint, and started to scrub fast. She had to get it off before school; otherwise people would look at her like a complete freak, as if she didn’t get enough of that last night. She hopped into the shower very fast. She didn’t have time to blow-dry her hair, so she just continued to get ready, ran to her car, and drove to school. She ran to her locker, ran to her homeroom, and walked in just as soon as the bell went off. Still, the only thing she could think of was Isaac. She loved his dimples and medium-length medium-brown hair (medium length for a guy, not a girl).
