After turning in all of her entry forms, Mina grabbed the schedule the principal handed her. She left the office without another word. In the hallway, people started staring at her again. She sighed and thought, Of course they're going to stare; they've probably known everyone here since junior high! And me...I'm just a newbie. Mina tried ignoring all of the stares and entered her English classroom, 9-2.
After closing the door behind her, Mina examined the classroom quickly. It seemed okay, the decorator must be a really cheerful person though, she thought, noticing that the colors were bright and went together perfectly. Mina began to head towards the desk, (after that BRIEF examination of the classroom. lol) where a middle-aged woman sat, rifling through papers. She's got a good sense of fashion, Mina thought as she glanced at the woman's clothing. Drawing nearer, she realized the woman was muttering to herself and couldn't help but overhear, "My, my, no specials at all! I bet the only reason half of these students are here is because their parents are rich enough to afford to send them to this kind of place. Huh! I bet over half of these nit wits don't even know what a verb is! Oh, this is going to be a terrible year!!"
The woman seemed extremely disgusted. Suddenly, she realized that someone was standing by her desk, and jumped as she spotted Mina. "Oh dear, I'm sorry for not noticing you earlier, however I was a little...annoyed you could say," the teacher said apologetically.
"Oh, no, don't worry about it! I didn't make my presence known to you, so...yeah..." Mina said uncomfortably, ashamed she had made her teacher apologize to her on her first day.
"Uh..I just wanted to see you because the lady in the office told me to notify all my teachers that I was going to be in their class, due to technical difficulties they're having." Mina said quickly, her words tumbling over each other.
"Hmm. Is that so?" the teacher asked questioningly. "They always seem to be having difficulties of some sort. Well, since you're in my class you better know my name. I'm Ms. Christine, dear, and you would be?"
"Oh, I'm Mina Baxter. It's a pleasure to meet you." Mina replied politely. With a little jolt of surprise, Mina noticed for the first time since she had seen the her, Ms. Christine actually smiled.
"You know, you look sharp. I think I'm going to enjoy having you in my class." Ms. Christine said, a mysterious look in her eye. "But be warned, this school is known for having accidents happen."
"...Right.." Mina replied uncertainly. "Well, I'll see you later Ms. Christine."
"Goodbye Ms. Baxter." the teacher replied with a sad smile on her face.
