Chapter 1 - Arrival
"Do you think we'll meet again," I asked as we were sitting on a ledge next to the pond. I kicked my legs, letting the water slash as I wait for his answer.
"Who knows. Maybe, once we're both in high school we'll meet again somewhere else."
"But you can't leave! You're the only friend I have! What if the bullies come back? Who'll protect me? Please stay here. I know I sound selfish, but please." I started crying. Why now? We've been friends for five years.
"Don't worry, no matter how far I am I'll always be close to you." He wiped away my tears, smiling his usual warm smile. I wanted to tell him more, but we're only elementary students. What's there to say? I still have mixed feelings for him.
I stood up, putting my hands on my hips and said sternly, "We'll make a pinky promise. Until you come back to this town or when I see you again, you'll have to have a present for me. Something special that isn't something you see everyday. Okay?" I held out my pinky.
He stared at me, bewildered, with his bright blue eyes. Then smiled with his eyes closed, "It's a promise." He then also held out his pinky and made the promise. He stood, "I have to help my parents pack. Bye Mayura." He turned, wave and ran.
I yelled, "Bye Fai! Don't forget the promise!"
Fai yelled back, "I won't! That's also a promise!"
"I'll be waiting," I said quietly, as a breeze blew my hair onto my face, my hands on my chest. Does it always hurt like this when you lose a friend or is it something else?
It's Been five years ever since Fai has left. Summer's here, Freshman year has ended. I'm still waiting. I guess he's still not able to come back. I wonder if he still remembers me.
"Hello? Earth to Mayura. Mayura?" My friend Abigail was trying to get my conscience back. Abigail. She reminds me of Fai: Blue eyes, blonde hair and almost he same personality.
"Sorry. What is it?"
She smiled, just like Fai's, "Are you still thinking about your boyfriend?"
I turned red, "He's not my boyfriend! He's only my best friend! How may time do I have to tell you?"
"Eh..." she sounded suspicious. "Then why are you turning all red?"
"I'm not its just hot outside. It's summer anyways."
"Yeah right. Anyways what are you doing this summer?"
"I'm not sure. But it's going to be somewhere here. Plus we made a promise. How about you?"
There was a long silence and staring. After what felt like an eternity, Abigail cleared her throat, "About the promise we made going to the beach together with our other friends... We"ll, I can't go maybe next summer?"
Next summer? We made the promise for this summer! I Wanted to yell at her, but that won't change anything. Instead I said, "Fine next summer. See you later. Bye"
"Bye!" She ran the other direction.
I sighed. Another promise broken. I wonder what I'll be doing this summer. Nothing probably.
After a couple of blocks i started to feel sleepy. My eyelids were heavy. I can't fall asleep in this kind of place, there's so many people here. I couldn't help it , I felt dizzy. I started to sprint. I had to get home fast. I tripped on something and fell on my face, then blackness.
