Hello. My name is Reverie. I’m a vampire. I don’t know my real name; one love gave me this one. However, I know exactly why I am what I am; I was in grave danger of dying, then he changed me. I don’t remember my mundane life. Only waking up. Only seeing the most beautiful man I had ever laid eyes on. It was Caleb. Caleb had this life for more years than I could ever know; he was an elder, he was suspected to have been the first of us. There was a whisper, about broken laws, the folding of the banishment law, why it was I. Back then I did not know why. But you see, back then was a very long time ago.
Reverie gasped and dropped the brush. She had no idea what she’d just seen. The feelings she’d sensed shocked her. As she had visions, the power wasn’t complex, in one she had seen a murder case that had happened 11 years before, in another she had seen a seemingly human child maturing into vampire.
But this time she had seen a young man, about 19. Normally this wouldn’t have startled her. Yet it was only the reality of what she saw, the all too dangerous reality. She was about to commit the worst offence to this boy, to herself. She was about to bite his neck; yes usually this would be the normal procedure of vampirism, the one of eating or drinking the blood of preference. Yet you see, this had not just been normal procedure. She had tasted her blood in her mouth. She had been doing the complete opposite of normal procedure. She had been inserting her own blood into the boy, altering the blood. She had been creating.
The consequence of what she had been doing, was worse than death. The most fearful thing in the mind of a vampire was banishment. Banishment from your clan, to be alone in a world full of what you were and what you aren’t, to never belong, you lose control, control of sanity and power, control of reality, control of self. You don’t belong.
She caught hold of a familiar scent. The one she had become so addicted to in the past centuries. Caleb. From the influence the scent had over her she had five seconds. She picked up the brush and started gently weaving it through her hair. Yes, she knew she couldn’t stop him from recalling the vision. But she could divert him from the thought of it at least.
The door swiftly turned open. Instantly his arms were around her. The scent was playing games with her senses. He picked up a lock of her hair and placed it to his face, smelling it, the other hand massaging her neck. As if she needed another reason to lose consciousness. He smiled, dropped the lock of hair and in one swift motion she was on his lap.
“Hello” she smiled. Getting just enough control to distance herself a bit. But Caleb wouldn’t budge, another motion and she was pulled back in.
“Hello” he smiled. He loved the effect he had on her. He finally let her push back a bit.
“Done hunting?” She was holding her breath. Again, one swift motion and she gasped. “Anyone could walk in you know.”
With a pout he removed his hand.
“Yes it was quick this time to find a person with the untruths, and” he placed his hand back where it had been. “I’m considered an elder, they shouldn’t have a problem.”
For someone who was born before the worlds knowledge was known, he sure was cocky, conceited, and most defiantly of the three, perverted. Suddenly she felt a flex; no it was more like a flinch. This was what she’d been afraid of. She wasn’t going to look up, she wasn’t going to breath, and most of all, she wasn’t going to move.
“You saw him.” It wasn’t said like a question, it was said like a statement, a fact. A statement that was a test of whether it would be denied. He already knew it was true. She slowly nodded.
He gently but forcefully tugged her chin up to face him. She didn’t know if she should be scared. Caleb’s silver eyes were burning into her. Suddenly she was on the rose petal filled mattress of her bed.
“I will make sure that never happens.” Now she was defiantly scared. She could feel his aura; the pure anger of determination was splitting the seams of her silk nightgown. She could hear the woven threads separately popping with each step he took. He was almost to the table. Then the door opened. The heat of Caleb’s glare was murderous. It was Arielle, another elder. And she had completely returned the gaze.
“I bought her that night gown in Japan 500 years ago you know. It was over 50 thousand yen!” She opened a drawer and fired a dagger form the 13th century at Caleb. Who caught it by the handle, and twisted it right back at her. Arielle caught it again and placed it back in the drawer.
“I’m pretty sure Reverie is fond of the wall in her bed room, Caleb” she sent him an icy glare with her powerful violet eyes. Caleb returned it.
“Enough Arielle, why did you grace us with your oh so wanted presence anyway” Caleb said in a flat irritated tone.
“The meeting of the elders has begun, we are waiting for you.” Arielle flipped her fiery red hair, and stalked off. Caleb grumbled. Reverie caught his shirt. Caleb stopped astonished he turned around.
“Sorry” she whispered it, a single red tear falling down her cheek. Caleb’s face was set into an unnamable emotion; he leaned down and framed her face with butterfly kisses then a single one on her lips. He touched her forehead with his own.
“I shouldn’t have pushed.” He turned again and slowly walked to the door, he turned has head back and sighed. Reverie smiled. She would prevent this from happening, when ever and wherever it would be, it was not going to happen.
