Chapter Four
On Shore
Annabel stood there watching Juaquin yell at the man for throwing his betrothed in the ocean. Annabel shivered at the thought of her sister marrying him. Their parents did arranged marriage without telling Kali. Surhomme taped Annabel and pointed to the ocean. Getting out of her thoughts, Annabel turns to the sea. She watched in amazement as a whirlpool created itself in the ocean.
The sky was clear from storms with no cloud about. Soon everyone was watching. They watched as Kali floated above the whirlpool glowing forest green. Annabel and Surhomme ran onto the d**k as Kali floated in their direction. She landed on the deck with both feet. Annabel looked from head to toe of her sister. She was out of breathe; try hard to get air as if it was missing.
Kali finally stop glowing as she lost her foot of balance. Surhomme caught her in time as she fell to the dock wood. Annabel watched as her eyes turn to a shade of violet. Kali looked into her sister’s aqua blue eyes. Kali never saw her sister cry ever. As Surhomme placed Kali to the floor, Annabel ran to her and held her within her arms. I promise to never let you go, Annabel promised as her little sister fell asleep in her loving arms.
At the Nishikawa Mansion
Surhomme help carry Kali home with Annabel and placed her in their bedroom. They both left her to sleep as her father summand them to the living room. In there they met general Juaquin and two of his soldiers. His face was grim and dark; he did not show ant emotion towards them at all. Her mother, Lady Katharine stood next to her and her father, Mayor Gregonean, stood in front of them. Juaquin step forward and spoke, “How could you betroth a disease to me. Does it even hint that you are breaking one of the laws you made?!” he shouted to the mayor. Annabel rolled her eyes as Juaquin placed her father’s laws on him.
“Oh shout up you moron, come on you didn’t even wanted to marry her anyway. So don’t place this on my father!” Annabel scolded at him. Gregonean gave her a glare as Juaquin smirked. Gregonean removed his daughter and Surhomme with one of the soldiers. They climb the stairs of great hall. It mostly felt the great fall of silent. Surhomme finally broke the silence, “I can’t believe your father is allowing Juaquin talk all that crap about Kali.”
They walk down the hall on the second floor to the girl’s room. Very slightly, Annabel opened the door looking inside. Kali laid in her bed breathing deeply in sleep. Not stirring at all. “When I was 9 months of age, mother got into a carriage accident. I don’t remember what happening but in the end mother was not able to give birth to a child,” Annabel sighed holding in her tears. “During the war I watched as children ran everywhere looking for their other siblings to protect them from the Dark Magic. I prayed to God to give me a chance to protect a sibling of my own. I knew it would never happen since the accident.” Annabel looked back in the room finally letting her tears come out.
“Then Kali came into the world. I cried for joy knowing God has answered my prayer. But after that I knew she was special. When she was six months, Kali was in the back of the garden. One of the boys killed a bird with their sling shot. She sat there saying something I never heard. She picked up the bird and it flew away. I knew no healer was able to bring anything back to life. I knew she was special.” Surhomme shout the door holding Annabel tight as she let herself fall apart. The soldier looked away as he wiped a tear from his eye.
At Kali’s room window
He sat there making sure no one was coming in. Satisfied, Drako opened the window and walked to Kali’s bedside. He watched as her sleep peacefully, he lifted her hair out her face and placed it behind her ear. That made her stirred with fright. The shadow figure next to her bed was not what she thought it was. Kali sat up as if there was an earthquake. Drako placed his hand on her shoulder to calm her down. He spoke softly to her, “Hey, it’s me, Drako are you al’right?”
Finally Kali saw him instead of the shadow. Still weak for using her magic, she tries to focus on him than on the headache being made. “Am I al’right? What about you did they hurt you at all?” She spoke as yellow went over her midnight blue eyes. Drako smiled, loving the way her eyes change to her emotion. “I am ok, don’t worry. I saw the whole thing; I was in the tree in the forest. I watched them throw you in the ocean. I was furious, I would kill them. But I am trying to stay out of trouble. I would have saved you, but water and fire don’t mix.”
He shrugged his shoulders in a sarcastically way. Kali smiled as midnight came back to her. That stayed together for a while until tiredness came to Kali once again. “Drako, I’m tired since today,” she didn’t want to say good-bye afraid she might not see him again. Drako nodded understanding her. He helped her to lie back down while pulling the covers over her shoulders. He walked to chair, placing a medallion and a staff with note on it.
While climbing back on the branch, he turns to see her one last time. Drako smiled as he closed the window behind him. Kali smiled as her world became black. She heard the door open from her room before her dreams called to her.
Back at the living room
Walking back to the living room, Juaquin, his soldiers, and Surhomme were sent home. Gregonean sent Katharine to bed early. Annabel watched as her father paced back and forth on the oak floor. “Without your mother knowing, I have sent Kali………that thing in a care to help remove her disease.” Rage to over Annabel as she yelled back to her father, “Kali is not a thing; she is a human just like us!” He looked at her with a shock on his face. She lowered her eyes to prevent eye contact with him. Gregonean continue,
“I will be sending her to Paradijs Weile; it will give her time to think what is right.” He looked at her as a tear drop fell from her face. Gregonean shook his face knowing why. “Annabel, I know you love her, but why did you keep her magic from us?” Annabel lifted her face towards him, still crying. She sat there looking at him with furry, “I did it because you would hate her even more. You would cast her out as if she was a stray dog.” He watched his daughter stand from her chair with anger and pride.
Annabel stood there facing her father, “I care more about her than you for so many reasons. You say that you care for everyone here.” She walked towards Gregonean with anger in her eyes. “But that was a lie, there is one person that is being hated and you are throwing her away.” Standing there with shock, Gregonean watched as she walked pass him to the door entrance.
“By the way kali would make a better mayor than you. She cares about everyone before herself,” Annabel announced over her shoulder. He turns to yell at her, only to find himself alone in the room. Annabel was already in her room crying herself to sleep.
