• Chapter three -> Remembering

Lunar, my horse, kept running under me and I was aware that Kilunar was watching me in worry, but my mind was racing through the past, going back further and further.
I could see the face of a beautiful immortal in the time of darkness, as the woman put a cloak over her head and held me tight against her, sheilding me from the darkness.
And then when I was being passed from one set of arms to another, and I recognized my cousin's face.
I shook out my head and focused on the rough dirt path under me as we raced through the forest.
    "I'm fine." I assured him.
    But I knew I wasn't fine.

Later that eavening I tied the reins of Lunar to a tree before climbing into the tent we had brought - only one, but it was huge as hell - and I put my magic stuff in my bag and throwing it in a corner. I examined the pendant that I now wore around my neck. It shone in it's pale glow, illuminating the tent by a small bit.
Sighing I took out my sleeping bag and lay down on the far end of the tent so he had room too. Making us sleep in the same tent. Eesh.
I closed my eyes and shivered once. The night was cold and damp, and I knew it wouldn't clear for a long time.
I huddled up into a ball, barely aware of watching eyes on me as I tried to control the shivering that kept going through my body.
I felt a weight on me, so I opened my eyes to see a second blanket on me. I sat up and looked around.
Kilunar was sitting beside the fire in nothing but a tight t-shirt and pants, trying to keep warm.
I got up and walked up beside him, and I put a blanket around his shoulders. He had goosebumps on his arms, and he looked at me when I did. I sat down beside him, looking at the fire.
With a piece of the blanket he put an arm around my shoulder to keep me warm.
    "Thanks." I told him.
    "No problem. You looked cold."
I nodded once, keeping my eyes on the fire. I sighed.
"All my life I've been made to think that my mother died when I was hours old." I shook my head in disaproval.
    "Come again?" He asked.
"You see... when you told me that Amaterasu's child was born seventeen years ago at the Renegade of the Dark Ones, I started remembering. My cousin Nathanel kept telling me my mother and father died when I was little and he had to take me in. He never told me the truth, and it's sad that no one ever wanted to, to keep me safe."
