• Jumping rope, I glanced over at the house across the street. “I dare you to go in that house, Jamie. Come on there’s nothing bad in there just maybe a couple of… ghosts!” My friend tortured me knowing I would not dare do it.

“Ummmmmm… I’m not scared. What are you talking about, I-I c-can do it,” I shivered hoping he changed his mind.

The house stood there for years. Why now, why ask me now? My friends dragged me to the backyard, my feet a foot deep in the ground. I stood in front of the door face dripping, body melting, fist tightening ready to land it on someone’s face, what were they trying to do to me?

“Guys please don’t make me. The signs say you can get arrested, private property. Let’s go!” I pleaded trying to convince everyone to leave.

Everyone shoved me even closer to the rusty door and teased, “Scardy cat, scardy cat. Just go in, Jamie!”

I cracked the door open and peeked in. A voice from my shoulder whispered, “Don’t do it run away. You don’t know what is in there.” Slowly walking in, I shot my head to the right, and to the left. The door slammed shut behind me and I shrieked a blood-curling scream.

“Don’t do it, Jamie. D-don’t do it. AHHHHHHHH!” I screamed in shock of the old house. “Ok, ok I can do this.” Quickly, I ran upstairs to show everyone I could do the dare my own way.

Everyone wiped circles on the brown windows to peek at what happened. “Where is she? What happened to Jamie?” My friends questioned themselves ready to humiliate me.

I glanced around the aged house when a door slammed. My eyes widened and I stumbled my way back to the door. My heart thumped out and back in. I could sense people behind me waiting to taunt me. I spun around, no one. Someone stood behind me, breathing on my neck ready to scare. My face shined and sweat trickled down my cheeks.

I freaked out and quietly sprinted for the door. Panting wildly, my breath kept in pace with my great speed. I approached the tall door and a voice whispered, “Come on, Jamie. You’re this close to your freedom.”

The door stuck itself to the wall and instantly peeled itself off. I finished my adventure and stepped back onto the great world. The sky winked at me and told me I survived.

From the event I learned never let anyone dare you to do something so horrifying and scary when you don’t feel like doing it.
