tab Everything humanity once knew had been shattered in the war. The continents were destroyed, all but one. That one, Hawthorne Creek, is now home to the few who survived; the humans. And the inhumans, angels, demons, necromancers, werewolves, vampires, shape shifters, and who knows what else. Of course, they didn’t live in peace, or harmony. Humans still felt hate toward anyone who was different. So, all inhumans reside in Eternal City. Under the remnants of what once was a great palace, is the underground city.
tab Elizabeth Marie sat at her window, laptop sitting on her knee. She looked out side, urging the clouds to pass and let the beautiful sunlight shine freely on the land. Of course, that rarely happened, here in Hawthorne Creek. It is nearly always raining. It’s been this way since the Death War of 2119.
tab When the Sun did come out of hiding, the forest was striking. The sun shone through the trees to the moss covered floor. She found it easier to write when it was that way. It awakened her imagination.
tab She sighed, pressing her fingers on the keys and began to write about the mysteries and temptations of being a necromancer. There was something about them, which she absolutely adored. If it were possible, she would become one, herself. But, she’s not sure if that is possible. So she writes about a realm where anything can happen.
tab After several hours of continuous writing, Elizabeth felt the need to go for a walk. So she saved her work, and placed the notebook on her desk- which was on directly across from the window- then skipped out of her room and down the hall to the living room. Grabbing her favorite crimson colored jacket, she noticed there were two new messages waiting on her answering machine. Eh, it can wait. It’s probably not even that important, anyway.
tab Her skin began to tingle, as the cool air hit her face. Though, the rain felt nice on her cheeks. As she walked down the sidewalk to the trail that would take her to the forest, a few people acknowledged her with a “Hello.” Or, “How are you?” But she ignored them and kept walking. She wanted nothing to do with the people in this damned city.
tab Although it was only mid-day, it was dark under cover of the trees; almost like the night. Elizabeth knew the forest well, so she had no trouble navigating her way through it. This was her favorite place to be- other then at her window writing. Out here in the cool air, she was at peace. The silence let her think.
tab She didn’t know how long she had been walking, but she found herself at the edge of the forest; on the outskirts of Eternal City. She saw a man of about twenty standing outside the gates, holding a baby. Though, it was hard to tell from where Elizabeth was standing, he appeared to be attractive.
tab She heard someone call out, “Trace!” It seemed as though he looked straight at her, so she hid behind a tree; still able to see him. The person who yelled his name called again, “Trey, Trey? What are you doing out here?” His gaze lingered on the spot Elizabeth was hiding before he turned around; saying something then sauntered in the gate.
tab Elizabeth started running back home. All she could think of was the inhuman she had seen. “Trey…” She had never seen an inhuman before. Though, she was fascinated by them. I want to meet him… I wonder if he’s part of the Sunfall.
tab By the time she got back, darkness covered Hawthorne Creek. She unlocked the door of her lonely apartment, and felt her way along the wall to find the light switch, then turned it on. As always, it was a moonless night; clouds coated the sky as the heavy rain fell to the ground.
tab After making Chicken Alfredo for dinner, Elizabeth went back to her writing. She sat at her usual spot by the window. The rain had gotten heavier; it beat down on the ground, rapidly making puddles. There was a river of water streaming down the window. Like the rain, words flooded from her fingertips. It has never been so easy. The inhuman she had seen- Trey- must have sparked something in her mind.
