Winter is over… the harsh winds had stopped, and in the north, the snow had melted. At sunrise, Alice Ruiz wake up to the warmth of the rising sun, a beautiful chirping erupted from her backyard. The chirping turned into a gorgeous song. Alice had never heard such sweet music before. None of California’s birds’ voices are as sweet as this one. Amazed by the sound, Alice quickly got out of bed and rushed out the door without even changing out of her monkey pajamas. Following the sound, she head toward a blackberry bush, She try to peep inside the bush but the branches were too thick and closely together. Without warning the song stopped midway! A tiny bluebird timidly hopped out of the bush.
The bluebird opened its beak and a cute, girly voice came out of it, "Hello."
Alice's eyes slowly widened in terror, her tiny pink mouth opened, but no sound came out. As she involuntarily took a step back, the bluebird hopped towards her. "What... what do you want?" Alice barely managed to whisper.
"You," chimed the bluebird, blinking her black eyes curiously at Alice's fearful expression. Alice took another step back. "I want you to help me." Alice took another step back. "Why do you look so scared?"
"Because you can talk!!!" Alice yelled, frightening the bluebird. Slowly, a tear formed in the bluebird's eyes. "Oh! Please don't cry. I was only surprised. What do you need my help for?"
"I'm lost," sniffled the bluebird. My family spent the winter here, but when we left last week, they flew too fast, and I couldn't keep up. So now I'm in your backyard."
Feeling pity for the bluebird, Alice decided to ask her parents whether they could spend spring break in New York. Her parents happily agreed. During the flight, the bluebird hid safely in Alice's backpack, which Alice always kept with her. Once the Ruiz family settled down in a hotel in New York, Alice let the bluebird free. The songbird flew back to her family, all the while, chirping her gorgeous song happily. As Alice watched her new valuable friend fly away, she wondered when she will do the same, but when she flies away, it would be from her family and not to her family.
