All Walls Down
Panting, the demon man rushed down the street, his eyes searching frantically. "Damn human girl," he muttered, dashing around the corner, an abundance of rain pounding against his skull from a gutter. His bare feet pounded against the concrete of the sidewalk, his heart pounding against his ribcage. He could feel his heartbeat pulsing in his toes.
The words from the note suddenly appeared in his head. "I'm sorry Dante, I can't take it anymore." The burning sensation of tears were held back as the rest of the words dissolved into the depths of his mind. His heart raced fasted, his pace picking up to keep up with it. Questions ransacked his mind. What did he do wrong? What wasn't he doing right? Was there someone else?
"Sparrow." Her name slipped off his tongue like velvet against skin. His mind was flooded with a single image. The young woman with the spike hair smiling at him. It was the day they met. The day the sky was crying. the image of her smile was embedded within his mind. It was engraved within it's cavities. How he came to love that smile. How he didn't want to lose it.
Dante stopped abruptly. The young demon stood there for a long moment letting the rain drench him. There, beyond the iron gate of the graveyard was his beloved obsession. Her hair wasn't spiked, her skin very pale. He leapt over the fence and slowly sauntered to his lover. He slowly ran his hand from her shoulders to her hands, holding them tightly.
The young woman looked up, leaning her head against his chest. Sparrows usual bright and brilliant jade eyes were now bloodshot and glistening with tears. She looked back down at the grave marker before them, more tears now pouring over. Dante looked closely at the name engraved within the stone. There was a long silence between the two.
After what seemed like hours, Dante's finally carried the young woman away from her grievance. As they got home, Dante silently dried Sparrow off with a towel and gave her a change of clothes. He changed out of his own clothes into dry ones and waited for Sparrow in the living room. After twenty minutes with no sign of the girl he stepped into her room.
The young woman was standing beside the window, a large blanket wrapped tightly around her small frame. The sound of the pitter patter of rain against the window filled the space as Dante shut the door lightly. He sat down in the window seat and turned to Sparrow, her eyes glazed over even when looking at him. He pat his lap softly, not a word exchanged between them. As the spike haired woman made herself comfortable in Dante's lap, he slowly wrapped his arms around her and began to hum softly.
Not long after, Sparrow's eyes had fluttered shut, the sound her breathing becoming slower and softer. A small smile made it's way onto his face as he combed his fingers through the young woman's silky hair. "You can let your walls down around me, Sparrow," he murmured. Soon enough, he too fell into slumber.
