The mighty sun arises, beckoning the souls beneath it to rise and begin
their daytime routines while warning nocturnal beasts to retreat to
their nests and homes; all is calm. Birds chirp happily in the warm
morning rays, humans are traveling to and fro as they need and desire.
Unbeknown to them, far off into the distance, a beast approaches. It's
skin is slate gray, a great contrast to the blue sky above it, it's
heavy body blending in with the smoke that flows freely from its
cavernous nostrils. The creature sleeping amongst the white puffy clouds
lifts its equally mighty head and sniffs the air; the atmosphere is
tense by the approaching beast, great leathery wings carrying it on some
unmapped course. The creature of the air opens its jaws, slowly,
menacingly, and reveals two rows of several jagged teeth, lifts its
massive white wings into the air and flaps them with great vigor, and
bellows out a mighty roar of caution, of warning to the great beast
swiftly approaching. The gray beast hears the roar of the other creature
and is angered; to it, the roar is perceived as a challenge. How dare
its journey be disturbed? What moronic beast disturbs it on this
important quest? Nevertheless, it continues its course as planned, the
roars getting louder and closer together. Irked by its forsaken calls,
the beast of the sky leaves its home and approaches its darker brother.
The beasts spot each other and set forth on a collision course, eager to
intercept the other, eager to accept the challenge laid before it. Soon
a great rumble is heard, and the dragon-like monsters collide,
grabbing, scratching and ripping at the others' flesh. Despite the
several open wounds, blood does not flow. In the place of thick crimson
liquid, tears of agony and frustration rain down upon the earth and its
inhabitants below, many of the humans ducking for cover while others
look on. Minutes turn to hours and still the beasts fight, neither one
daring to back down from the fight and suffer a horrendous wound to
their pride. The air beast gains the upper hand and shoves its brother
behind it, but does not move to attack; instead it chooses to roar
angrily after him, warning him to keep his distance the next time he is
close by. The darker creature slams against as many unseen objects as it
can out of sheer rage, its eyes still weeping from the pain, but most
of the tears are from the ghastly wound that lies within his chest, his
pride gravely injured. Satisfied, the sky creature returns to his home,
his post in the sky, and lands among the fluffy white clouds once more
that float across the watery-blue sky at a peaceful pace. Before he lays
his head down to rest, he flaps his wings and lets out another roar,
this time singing in happiness and in victory, letting the world below
him know that he had won the battle. This is the way the beasts part,
their battles forever raging on, until their demise among the sky.

- Description: I wrote this after we had a storm. Despite my hatred and fear of storms, they tend to inspire me. So I wrote this before going to bed that night, and I think it turned out pretty good, so I figured I'd share it with the world. ^.^
