Emma loved the wind. She loved how it tickle her and how it spoke words of comfort. When she was always moving from place to place she was glad to have a friend that could always be with her.
She turned her wings to the west so she could watch the sunset. She should find a place to sleep. She didn’t like flying in the dark. The birds were always nice, but the bats felt she didn’t belong. Not that she belonged anywhere. She descended towards the forest. There are always good trees to sleep in.
Emma landed in a pine tree. To normal humans it may seemed pokey but to her it was soft because her wings cushioned her. She hung her bag above her and fell asleep instantly.
When Emma woke up she was unable to breath. It was stll dark. Smoke engulfed and chokec her. Her eyes watred as she grabbed her bag. She spread her wings, about to take off when she heard calling for help.
“Help us!” cried a voice, strained from the smoke. She heard coughing.
Against her instict, Emma dived lower into the denser smoke. When she landed she saw three figures surrounded by flames. She flew over the fire to them. Two young boys were on their knees, coughing uncontrollably. Another boy was searching for an exit.
