Crash, Blood, Silence. That was all that the young girl could remember of that day. Her only friend, Aisha, stood there in the street, all alone. In the distance, Rai could hardly make out the glare of two headlights against the blazing sun. Aisha remained still, her eyes glazed and distant. In desperation Rai called out warnings and pleas for the girl to flee from the gruesome, ensuing fate. Everything in her was urging herself to run out and push Aisha out of the way, but her feet remained still on the cold earth. She felt so alone, yet she could feel the crowd bustling round, repeatedly bumping into her as though she was nothing.
Finally attempting to shove her way forward, she was still unable to get to the side of the road. Rai could hardly even see past the people by the curb, and all she could feel was a thud in her heart from the wretched, hard, crashing sound. Everything around her seemed to be dripping in blood, but that wasn’t what was hurting her. It was the silence. The bitter, dark silence seemed to be rushing into Rai’s very being and drowning her soul. The stillness of the heartless crowd, simply gaping at the scene was crushing in the girl’s heart. Not a person moved, not a bird chirped, not even the ringing of the church bells sounded. And she ran. She ran and pushed her way through that heart wrenching silence. Closing her eyes, she imagined the horrid sight of Aisha lying there, helpless. She could just picture her sprawled out with her last dying breath nagging at Rai’s soul as it pleads for help. “Please Rai, I need you. Don’t go…” But the unbearable silence was what kept her from going back. It was that silence that forever loomed around her mind like the ominous shadow of killer. Every day of her life, she would think back to that moment as tears swelled up around her eyes; for that was all she could remember… Crash, Blood, Silence.
