• I felt myself being carried from one room to another. I was afraid to open my eyes, afraid of what I’d see.
“If you don’t wake up soon you’re going to die,” a husky male voice whispered. I could only imagine who it was. I quickly opened my eyes and was suddenly aware of a sweet intoxicating smell. He raised his wrist to my mouth and I knew exactly what was going on.
“Drink,” he whispered. I took h...is hand and pressed my lips to his wrist and began to drink. The blood made my throat feel like it was on fire, but I couldn’t stop. I felt him pull away then he looked at me and smiled.
“Why me,” I whispered. He didn’t answer me, he only sighed. He then got up and walked away. I tried to move, but I had no control over my body.
“You shouldn’t struggle so much,” the “monster” said. I decided to call him the monster, plus I didn’t know his name.
“What do you want from me,” I whispered. His stare grew cold and he looked as if he were in pain.
“Love,” he whispered. I snorted at this.
    “Something funny,” he hissed.
“No, but why me,” I replied
“I can see into your heart, it’s pure and precious,” he said smiling.
“Not anymore, it doesn’t beat,” I spat.
“Oh your heart still beats, you’re a Dhampir,” he spoke sternly.
“A what,” I asked. His eyes lit up and a beautiful smile formed on his face.
“You’re half human and half vampire, meaning your mother is human, but your father is a vampire,” he said
“I don’t even know my father,” I whispered.
“A vampire can’t love a human and if they do they can’t stay with them,” he said sadly. I don’t know why, but I reached out to touch his hand. He quickly pulled away as if he were afraid.
“I need to take you back,” he whispered. As soon as the words left his mouth my vision was gone. When I could finally see again, I was in my car in front of my house. My throat felt dry and my head was spinning. I quickly got out of my car and ran into my house.
    “Maddie,” my mom yelled.
    “Yes, mom,” I replied.
I knew by the sound of her voice that she was worried. My mother often worried about me. She had since my father left when I was two. I walked into the kitchen and saw my mother with her shiny red hair, small petite body, and amazing green eyes.
“Where have you been,” she asked sternly. I couldn’t remember where I’d been so I said the first thing that came to mind.
“I was with Leigha and Devon, we got stuck in traffic, sorry mom,” I whispered. My mother just looked at me and then wrapped her arms around me.
“I was so worried,” she whispered softly. We were brought back to reality by the cry of my baby brother.
“I’ll get him,” I said and started for the stairs. Once I got to his room his crying had stopped. There he was, my beautiful baby brother, with his soft brown hair, lovely brown eyes, and adorable baby face. I gently lifted him and held him close. His tiny hand found its way to my hair and knotted it around his fingers. I held him cradled in my arms staring down into his lovely face. That’s when I remembered exactly what happened today. I was suddenly aware of a sweet smell radiating from my brother. My mouth began to water, but I didn’t feel the hunger. My brother let out a shrill but joyful laugh. My mother had given birth to him only a few months ago, but her boyfriend at the time and the father of my brother Eric left as soon as she gave birth.
“You should go eat,” my mother said, apparently she had crept up on us. I gently handed him to her and quietly left the room. I sauntered down the stairs and into the kitchen. I was suddenly overwhelmed by the smell of chicken pasta with a broccoli sauce drizzled over the top. The smell was amazing. I got a bowl and fork and served myself. After the first bite my mouth watered for more. The taste was out of this world. I quickly finished eating, and washed the dishes. As I began to walk upstairs I was stopped by two loud knocks at the front door.
“Coming,” I called on my way to the door. When I reached the door I was suddenly overcome with the smell of innocence which I knew had to be Leigha, and the other smelled of pain and fear of rejection.
“Devon,” I thought. With a sigh I opened the door and was instantly aware of two strong arms wrapped tightly around me. I started to scream, but found that my voice was no longer available.
    “Shut up Maddie,” Leigha whispered.
“He’s here, we have to get her away from here,” Devon hissed. I could feel my body slowly kicking into panic mode. I began to kick and struggle, hoping to be released. Devon and Leigha began to run at an incredible speed, one that couldn’t possibly be human.
