The day had started out normally enough. I was a traveler, wanting to see what lay beyond my homeland of Elsweyr. The warm land I'd called home for the better part of my life was slowly fading behind me, and a new land, Skyrim, lay before me. I'd heard that this new land --well, new to me, at least-- was rather cold and harsh to those who weren't accustomed to the climate, but I was confident that I could survive, no, make a living in it. And so I set off, against my family's wishes, to become an adventurer.
Ah, I apologize; I should introduce myself. I am Reeko Snowfur, and I am a member of the Khajiit race. What are the Khajiit, you ask? We are a proud race of cat-people, although I've heard tales that not everyone in Skyrim is fond of our presence. For some absurd reason, most --Nords, I think they're called-- see the Khajiit as nothing more than liars, thieves, and Skooma dealers. (I have no idea where that rumor came from, because I'm no liar, I don't deal in Skooma, and I'm certainly not a thief.)
But I digress. I did not bring much with me when I left Elsweyr: just my trusty bow and iron arrows, a dagger, a few rations, a small amount of gold, and the clothes I was wearing. I figured that these would be enough to deter anything that wished to attack me. I didn't realize until it was too late just how mistaken I was in thinking I was safe. As I neared the border between Eslweyr and Skyrim, I heard yelling and what sounded like fighting, and of course, me being the curious Khajiit that I am, I went to investigate and walked right into the middle of a battle.
There were soldiers dressed in steel armor fighting men who looked like they were wearing some type of --was that fur armor? Who wears fur armor these days? It's not very effective when it comes to protection against --ah, sorry, I digress again. Anyway, it didn't take long for the steel-armored soldiers --I would later learn that they were called Imperials-- to subdue the fur-armored ones, and by sheer bad luck, or some twisted humor of the gods, one of the Imperials spotted me and immediately assumed I was with the "rebels," as he called the captured men. I tried to explain that I was merely a traveler, but my words fell on deaf ears. Before I could react, the Imperial signaled one of his men, and the last thing I remember is something hitting the back of my head before darkness overtook me.
