When he pulled out to follow, I knew my account balance was going to take a hammering. I drove down that road every day to work. Just last week there had been an accident, forcing the closure of the entire road. I should have known better. In fact, I did know better.
I passed over my license and didn’t even bother with a witty remark. I knew my brain would find an excuse later but it wouldn’t matter, and it wouldn’t do anything to rewind time so that I might have not taken off so fast from the roundabout, maybe allowed me to see ahead, to see what was waiting.
However, instead of looking at this in a negative way (now that I’d had a chance to reason with myself), I found a different light to shine.
Be prepared. It’s important to honor, uphold and sustain the law. It’s there for a reason. If we happen to break it, then it’s our own fault. We have no one else to blame but ourselves. We could pass the blame off quite easily but there will always be a part of you that doesn’t fully believe it. A little voice inside that knows it was your fault.
Instead of dwelling on the now past; take action. Pay the fine and get on with life. Return to that cautious Probationary Driver you once were. Stay below the speed limit, wake up earlier and leave plenty of time to get to work. There’s a year left but another two strikes and you’re out.
I could be saying this more for my benefit than your’s but never say that it couldn’t happen to you. This is all about a viewpoint.
When you change your view, you can change the world.
