• Looking up at the sky, its like a giant blue gem. Darkest at the center, and gently fading in color until the shade could be described as light itself.

As I wait, the first of the fireflies begin to venture out. Their brave twinkling sparks others to join in.

The sky has faded to a murky shade of grey now. The kind of grey you associate with things marked with age.

Birds call to each other, a final good night. Bugs hum and buzz the same, as the twilight lingers.

Everything smells of cut grass, assurance of summer and its promises of joy. And indeed, everything, as far as the eye can see, is green, lush, and full of life.

To breathe in now is like breathing in life, and to breath out is like breathing out stress. It is as if time has slurred.

The noises start to die down as the creatures nestle cozily into their beds. A few bats twitter overhead, just awaking from their slumber.

The leaves of nearby trees dance loftily as a lazy breeze sails slowly through.

The pale grey sky is now deepening to an almost opaque tinge. Hints of blue still hang on, giving the darkness away.

Here and there, stars begin to smile through the darkness, pushing their way through, as if shoving their way forward in a crowd.

Now it is time that I retire, taking my leave from the darkening world that lies in my backyard.
