My war is almost over
Time has pierced my chest
I lie torn on the soil of a place called Antiem
The bullets have riddled my life
A life the pendulum now ticks away
The smell of blood replaces air
Air I soon will no longer breathe
The once green grass tainted red by death
Thousands have died; brother slaying brother
Men fall together, seeming to bleed as one
Dismembered bodies litter the earth
An earth now become Hell
No one can ever know this kind of pain
The gruesome horror of battle
When the people around you lay dying
Wanting nothing more than a cold release
To see their gnarled hands claw the dirt thick with blood
To hear the screams of an army of souls
To taste death’s solemn kiss…
Some say actions speak louder than words
But what about the words
“Forgive me?”
Isn’t that what we should do?
Cleanse their hearts rather than rip them from their chests?
I may never know
I have but a few seconds and counting
Counting down to my death
When the pendulum ceases to swing
My war will be done.

- Description: This was written from the perspective of a dying soldier in the American Civil War. I think this is one of my favorite and better works, so I hope you all enjoy it.

- Very beautifully put together. So well done, that no rhyme is needed. Bravo, 5/5 and +fav.
