• Once upon a time, just before spring,
In a palace on a hill there lived a king.
He was so bored and without a queen
He so young, little older than a teen.

On a night that was wet with bad rain,
A shadow walked in with a fool's cane.
The shadow stepped in front of the king
And said to the young man, 'I can sing'

The king was interested, oh yes indeed.
'If you fail to amuse me, you will bleed.'
The shadow grinned and pulled back a hood
To reveal she was a girl, 'Trust me I am good.'

The king was surprised, taken aback.
The girl ignored him, 'In return for a snack
I will dance and sing. I will keep you entertained,
For this is what I do, this is how I am trained.'

He stared on, the young king so bright
And wondered why this girl came in tonight.
He took her all in, brown hair and not so tall,
Dark eyes, nose. every detail, big and small.

The king leaned back, arms crossing his chest.
'Very well, after dinner let me see your best.'
She was so graceful as she sang that night
It was something new, oh what a sight!

The months passed and her identity stayed hidden
Until the king claimed that is was forbidden.
She said she had no name, 'Oh, what a pester'
The king grinned, 'Good. your my Court Jester.'

News started to ring throughout the town
That if the king had no queen he must go down.
Word got to the king's dear entertainer
And had a ball set by the local painter.

After begging and pleading, the king agreed
To go with Jester to do a good deed.
Jester got ready like a dear good girl
When the king saw her, she resembled pearl.

That night the king's palace was saved
And Jester was surprised that he had behaved.
Who would have thought that he would fall for a fool
And announced to the town she was his jewel?

One day the king had enough and asked
'Why did you come to me that night masked?'
Jester just looked at him and gave him a smile.
'You were my one love, all of the while.

'I saw you once, at my town ball so very bored
You smiled as I began to sing and I thought 'Oh Lord'
You were so dashing and i knew you were kind
And left my home until your palace i could find.

'I practiced day and night my dancing and singing.
And when I found you that night, my ears were ringing.
I sang that night with only you in thought
And I am happy with what the future has brought.'

Once upon a time, during dear spring,
In a palace on a hill there lived a king.
He so young, little older than a teen,
Had found his bride, Jester the Queen.
