"Liberation” - The Story of a Murderer
The winter chills my bones,
making me twitch and burn with fever.
I lie on the snow bank next to a
street lamp and my chest rises up and down
heavily. Today I have been liberated,
free from my past sins and self.
The shrieks of pain, the spilling of blood, and
the curse of Death was what clouded my eyes when I slumbered.
My brother knife, my sister gun, and my father Death
Were my family…relatives…
hobbies…
objects that filled oh-so-comfortably in my small hands.
I couldn’t stop.
My hands held obedience to another master,
one that hungered for blood and the
sweet scent of life lingering away, on the verge of an
uninhabitable darkness,
roaming everywhere yet, nowhere.
Unable to escape this twisted hunger,
I made my final crime, my last act of obedience
to my murderous intent.
I held the gun close to my chest,
no bead of sweat curled onto my brow,
I knew my fate, I knew I was justifying
the many others who faced my irrepressible sensation.
I am not afraid.
I lay here, my heart beating
weaker and weaker. My eye sight growing
dimmer and dimmer. The seconds fades quickly past me.
I look up at the street light above me once more.
I breathe in, filling my bruised lungs one last time,
then the light disappears….
