Everyone’s keeping a straight face
Looking ahead as if in a race
Who’s behind me in this crowd?
He’s yelling at his son so loud
A glance behind me and he begins to grunt
An apologetic look put upon his son
The old man whispers in the young man’s ear
“Not so loud for the whole store to hear!”
I blink once or twice
I turn around
The poor child
With no mom to be found
But why must I always take for granted
That this loud person is not disenchanted?
For the battle he must go through
We don’t consider, neither me or you
What if his wife has left him alone—
To take care of this child all on his own?
What if his debt is too much to handle
Maybe they’re lights are out
And they’re using candles
But then again maybe not
Maybe in that heart every battles been fought
And maybe deep down in that kid
Screams the want to throw a fit
I scowl as I turn my back
Walking forward without looking back
I wonder what that man must think
“Why the hell was that woman staring at me?”
