Don’t Turn Away
You stand before me, eyes blazing,
And your teeth bared in disdain.
Though right now, it’s heavily raining,
All I feel is your silent and hungry rage.
When you speak, your words wound,
Lashing at me like a thirsty blade.
You tell me you’ll be leaving soon,
Nothing I can do will make you stay.
You say that now I have really failed,
I’ve been only a burden all along.
We’ve come to the end of our twisted trail,
You add, it’s time for you to be gone.
Quickly, you turn your back to me,
And that simple movement is so slow.
Your first step away takes an eternity,
Because I can’t stand to see you go.
You have held my hand for years,
While I stumbled blindly in the night.
In the mist, you chased away my fears,
So I learned to rely on you for my sight.
Now I’m all alone, broken and bleeding,
Leaning on a ragged, leafless tree.
The pounding rain can’t erase my screaming,
But you still don’t look back at me.
I dig my nails into the tough bark,
Clenching my teeth against the cold.
The pain which consumes in the dark,
Has at last begun to break my bones.
I watch as you disappear in a sheet of rain,
Knowing I will never be yours again.
If only the simple calling of your name
Could allow me to call you my friend.

Description:
This is a poem I wrote about being left behind by someone you thought was your friend. It's a theme I do a lot, as it's something I understand perfectly well.
