-
She sits alone,
Missing her homeland,
And shedding silent tears.
The moon shines
On her ghostly pale arms
Sitting on the windowsill.
The mirror across the room
Shows the contents
Of the quiet attic;
All its occupants
But one.
She looks out
Into the night.
She longs to go,
But must stay
Lest her hunger
Become stronger
Than willpower alone.
She remembers Romania
And her betrothed,
Forced into union.
She'd barely known him,
Yet they would've been
Together for an eternity.
She had run,
And didn't stop
Until she could run no more.
She doesn't regret her choice,
But feels
More alone than ever.
At least,
Until she looks up.
There,
Sitting on the curb,
Is a morbid teen
With black hair
That falls across
His dark grey eyes.
He is tall, thin, and pale,
Just like her,
And yet not like her.
He glances up at the window
And sees
Two pale green eyes
Staring wistfully down at him.
He looks deeper
And sees her;
Pale as death,
With long black hair
And a lonely smile.
He smiles
And waves to her.
She waves back
And the trace of a tear
Falls from her eye.
He stands
And walks away
With one final glance
At her window,
But she has gone.
She sleeps peacefully
And realizes
That she
Would gladly spend
The next eternity alone,
Just waiting to see him again.
