I can feel the rain pouring down on me
I can smell it’s chill on the breeze
Seeping through to brush my skin with icy fingers
The storm rages on
Lighting flashes overhead
So brief, the echo of a whisper
A blinding flash, like quicksilver
Then gone without a trace
Thunder roles through the clouds
A voice without a face
Speaks to me in booms and crackles
Like the ringing of a gong
Wind howls through the trees, streets, and canyons
Down the rivers and up the mountainside
Whips my hair about my face
As I gaze blindly through the rain
I stand alone in a storming town
Open road before me and empty streets
One light flickers down upon me
A lone street lamp burning low
I watch as its final glow is spent
As it flickers to a close
I lift my sodden wings to its last light
And take flight to the flashing gray clouds
Breaking through to cold morning sunshine
I fly on to clearer skies
To a town where my last street lamp
Isn’t burning down
