Circus of Destruction
So we're meeting for the first time,
I thought I knew you inside-out,
And really had you back-to-front.
But you just messed me about.
You spoke the sweetest nothings
Through the fairgrounds hall of mirror,
But if I'd really been looking,
I’d see the lies were wearing thinner.
I'd have seen how warped the glass was,
Seen the tear-stains and the crack,
Where my predecessors beat their fists,
As your smile fought them back.
In this hall of twisted something’s,
You've had me chasing your illusion
Of a boy who never was,
Trapped inside my own confusion.
And listening to your laughter
Echo off the shining walls.
But you ran too fast, my friend,
And outside in the suns where I let you fall.
In the harsh, cold light of day,
I could see just what you are.
You looked so right and perfect
Behind that tortured glass.
Because you yourself are corrupted.
I know cos’ I saw into your soul,
Each a part a piece of broken lie,
Your sweet nothings a fallen wall.
And I'm as much a fool as the clowns,
In this nightmare circus of a life,
You thought you could keep me leading.
Round a Ring of madness and of strife.
Yes, I loved someone,
But he was never real...
Yes, I thought I loved someone,
Till I discovered what they feel.
You were the Ringmaster in my mind,
Simply a one of a kind,
But like the show our love was timed,
Now our curtains fallen down,
And you’ve washed the make-up off,
I’m just like that sparkly outfit,
The one that you just cast off.
