She walks by trees and flowers
aware of a deep bass hum,
and from the earth
they rise.
Their wings vibrate, they anticipate,
leaving sunbursts of movement
and streaks of blurred
rainbows.
Explosions of color shimmer
in the air as they dart:
cherries, plums,
tangerines.
Figures smaller than her thumb,
slighter than her pinky,
suspended between
flimsy wings.
With spidery limbs, long and thin,
and beauteous smiles
stretching from eye
to eye.
Their voices sing to the moon,
haunting wails and shrieks
that hang heavy
in the air.
And she steps over the mud, red,
steps past the almost-gone squirrels
and rabbits weakly twitching,
into this land of other.

- Description: So I took a poetry class to meet my writing major requirements. This is the result. Criticism welcome as long as it's constructive - I know I suck, thank you, and don't need to be told that. How do I make it better?
