• Ghost
    By Tricia Callero

    Dark night, bereft of light
Woman in white, at the end of the hall
Faceless specter, what could have left her
forever to wander, the night all alone ?
You turn as you see me
    Afraid, as I should be,
    I feel not afraid
    Nor, inclined to flee.
    You move slowly toward me
    My hand passing through thee
As I try to make out
    Whether real or my own
    Imagination due to sleep deprivation
    Then all of a sudden
    You move like the mist
I feel I’ve been kissed by a cool winter wind
    The internal light you project
strangely bright, robs me of my sight
    for a moment,
    and then
you pass slowly through me and
    are gone like a breeze
passing over the trees that quickly flees
    with its passing away.
I know you are here still
    and though now unseen will
continue to walk these halls by night
until someday, maybe, a hero will save thee
and guide thee to where there is eternal light.
Until then, lady, walk bravely and save thee
    Some hope for the future
    for one day we all
may meet with the same fate
    and carry the same weight
    that you find yourself with
    when day is done.
