"What are the chances they'd believe us if we told them we're their town heroes from way back when?" Van said with a small smile as he took the desired job ads. "We could probably cover all the expenses with the gold they shower us with in thanks." he said, that egotistical smile on his face again as he imagined the scene in glee.

"I know, right?" Mala said, frowning slightly to herself as she tried to recall the number of years they had been on the road. Finally she said, "I lost track after year 131, and that was way back wasn't it?"

Van gave a hearty laugh at hearing that. "I'm amazed you kept track for as long as you did! I think I gave up around the fiftieth year or so."

"Remind me again how long it took before you made any sort of progress with Angel?" Van pretended to muse with a smirk before they stopped in front of the inn. "This admittedly feels weird. Work or not, I don't think we've actually spent any time apart from each other for an extended amount of time since you went to magic school."

"I...I guess you have a point there." Mala laughed, knowing very well how true that statement was. After hearing what Van said about being apart, Mala thought it over and realised something. "You know what? You're right. It's going to be really odd to be apart so long, won't it be?"

"At least it's just for the day as opposed to months or years. I'm sure we'll manage." Van said giving her a kiss on the cheek, just like any other couple when one of the two go off to work. "I'll come by when I'm done and we can figure out what our financial situation looks like."

"Of course. I'll see you once our shifts are over, then." Mala muttured, offering Van a light kiss back with a smile - not wanting to let Van be the only one to give out a kiss before they would part.
