Van chuckled as he watched Larai crawl back under the bed. "Need anything else under there?" he asked as he looked under the bed.

"That's right, our little search and rescue happened before we could eat." Van said with a chuckle before stopping suddenly and running to the kitchen, being greeted by a pan full of smoke and burned food.

Mala sat beside the bed, in case Larai had anything further to say. Which, of course, she did not.

"Hope you can wait a little longer for dinner," Van called in between coughing while he tossed his burnt creation. "because it looks like I'll be starting from scratch."

Mala was snickering as she muttured to Larai, "Looks like daddy forgot to take the food off of the pan before he left. Not that I blaim him~"

While Van set to work making more dinner, Kai wandered back into his room where Mala was. "So mom, you said I was gonna get a reward for helping take down that demon guy...right?" he said with that innocent smile kids used when hinting not so subtly.

"Yes I did. What is it you want, sweetie?" Mala asked, grinning broadly at her son. She was certainly proud of Kai for what he pulled earlier.

Kai seemed to weigh the work vs joy that would come from a pet in his mind for a while before sighing. "I guess not..."
