Riley just stuck his tongue out at his sister before going back to his lunch for a moment. "...You think a doctor might know when my powers'll come in? I saw an ad on tv this morning that said they could do that stuff now."

Amaya cursed inwardly, hearing Riley ask. She swallowed her food before turning to him with a light sigh. "If you want to go see a doctor and find out, we can take you...but that decision is up to you." She said in a soft voice, wishing he hadn't seen the commercial at all.

"Of course I want to! All this waiting and not knowing is driving me crazy!" Riley said before settling with a small pout.

"Fine, fine...We'll take you after school on Monday..." Amaya murmured, rubbing her temples. She just hoped Riley wouldn't end up disappointed.

"So much for him not knowing about it..." Adrian muttered to Amaya with a sigh.

Nodding lightly, all Amaya could think about now was the possibility that her son might have powers or might get his hopes crushed. Looking to Cali, she could see about the same thought going through the girl's head, though she tried to act like nothing was wrong. "Hopefully he won't be crushed..." She murmured to Adrian.

"Well, if I what I remember about genes from high school biology is correct, the odds are in his favor." Adrian said with a hopeful sigh.

She knew she'd have to talk to Riley later about understanding his decision to know and knowing that he could just be a normal kid. If she didn't explain that, Amaya would be a terrible mother, though sounding like she was trying to discourage him from knowing probably wasn't any better.
Will you be ready when it happens?...They're coming soon... Echoed the same voice Cali had heard before. She jumped, looking around now for anyone who looked suspicious. What was with this voice? What was going to happen? Who was coming? All these questions were now swirling through Cali's head as she looked around the small store.

"Are you hearing things again?" Riley asked as he looked up at Cali, who was starting to look really paranoid. "Are you sure you're not going crazy?"

"Are you sure you're not getting shorter?" Cali asked dryly, glaring at Riley a little. "You know, I'm not the only one that could possibly go crazy still." She muttered to Riley as she got up to go throw away the trash.
"Riley, it's not funny." Amaya murmured, starting to get a little hurt herself how everyone was now just classifying her illness as crazy.

"Right, I forgot the 'c' word was taboo around here." Riley said as he rested his chin in one hand while Adrian got up to throw their trash away. "Sorry Caliiiii." he said rolling his eyes since he knew one of his parents was going to make him apologize.

Amaya sighed, getting up and going outside to get some air. It was hard when everyone kept calling her crazy. At times like this, she missed Sikes's drugs. Anything to numb the pain for a bit and make her forget. She leaned against the wall of the building, her arms folded across her chest as she watched the people go by.
Cali watched her mom walk outside and frowned. She knew what she and Riley had said hurt her. There were days that Cali noticed her mom seemed to be somewhere else in her thoughts. It was usually after someone had mentioned in someway that her mom was crazy, and she could tell that it hurt Amaya, even if she didn't say anything. Cali felt bad now, but she wasn't sure if she should give her mom a few more minutes to herself before she went to apologize, now sitting at the table as she stared out the window at her mom.

"You two stay here." Adrian told them with a sigh as he went outside, coming up from behind to give Amaya a hug. "You know they're not talking about you or the schizophrenia, right?" he said softly.

"Another day, another duty, eh?" Roran asked as he shouldered the door to the office open. Utilizing his foot to keep the door open, both dogs came bursting into the room at the same time, fighting for who would get in first. Walking over to Kantern's office door, which was always open, he met Kantern at the door. "Here's the coffee, just as you like it; blacker than death."
"Thank you," Kantern took the coffee, placed it on his desk and removed the lid so it wouldn't scald his tongue. "So any plans for the day? No one's called in about the job yet."
"Ah, we might head to the park after work, unless a job requires otherwise. Jezzy's been wanting to go to the store for some new treats too." Roran had bought himself a coffee as well, sipping on it whilst protecting his own tongue.
"You talk about your dogs as though they can speak to you. Others might say you're a loon." Kantern sat down at his desk, logging back into his computer.
"There are more ways to communicate than through speech, my friend. My dogs and I have, how should I say this, an understanding." Roran smirked, walking over to the couch and sitting down, staring at the plant resting in the corner. "Besides, who cares if others call me a loon."
Laughing out loud at Roran's response, Kantern raised his voice to be sure his client could hear him. "For one, it could benefit our business. We wouldn't want people seeing the face of a lunatic when thinking about Triple A."
"Right, right, because people think about us all the time!" Roran was joking, obviously, but then the phone rang.
"You were saying?"

"You and I both know that's exactly what they're talking about." Amaya said, pain evident in her voice. "They may have not been mentioning me, but they were talking about the schizophrenia. You know how hard it is to hear people refer to you as 'crazy' every single day?" She told him in a soft voice.
