 The tiger that shouldn't be....is.... Raevyn glances up at Ashriel and raises an eyebrow at her actions. "She does that every year?" He asked, mildly surprised at her actions. Why was she going back to bed?  The tiger that should be....isn't....

Jennalin nodded, grinning. "She tries to just sleep through the morning of her birthday, to avoid getting anything. By the afternoon, however, she'll warm up to the idea of-"
Jennalin was interrupted by Ashriel making a loud, surprised squeal then a thump as Ash apparently fell of the bed. "What the?" She was asking. If Raevyn were to enter, he would find her staring at her palm.

The tiger that shouldn't be....is.... Raevyn jumped at the sound of the 'thump'. He frowned, hurriedly rising and heading into the bedroom. "Ashriel? You alright?" He asked, looking at her worriedly. "What happened?" The tiger that should be....isn't....

Ashriel continued to stare at her palm. She was sitting on the ground at the end of the bed, thinking about what to answer Raevyn. "Raevyn, my palm has this funny thing on it." She showed him the mark that she had just noticed, not sure what exactly to say.

The tiger that shouldn't be....is.... Raevyn frowned and moved closer. He knelt to look at her palm, fearing what he would see. He took her hand gently, cradling it as he examined the mark. He face went bone white as he saw it. No. No way.
((If this is what I believe it is, then......*waves hand and uses jedi mind trick* there is so plot hole here. You see nothing. Btw, mind if I describe the mark? I has an idea as to what is should look like. Unless you have something specific in mind.)) The tiger that should be....isn't....

The tiger that shouldn't be....is.... ((So, ignoring plotholes, here's roughly what the mark would look like. But the lines would be made up of odd symbols of another language. Think Arabic or something along those lines.))
Raevyn could only stare at the mark. He'd seen marks similar to it before, though it was different for each set of mates. The lines formed a design that spoke of his heritage as a cat. Each line though, traced his family lineage, written in the ancient language of the Were's. It was a language never used anymore but for the mating marks. He hissed as a sudden burning sensation crawled across his hand. When it cooled, he was staring at a mirror image of Ashriel's mark. "That's what." He told her softly, showing her his own palm. The mark was scrawled across Ashriel's left palm but Raevyn's right palm. And the marks were mirror imaged so that if their palms were pressed together, the marks would line up perfectly. The tiger that should be....isn't....

Ashriel looked at Raevyn's hand quietly, sitting there. She wasn't sure what to say, thought she could guess at what it meant. Still... "Err...Raevyn...I...I don't know what exactly these mean." She said quietly, although it was apparent that she had a basic understanding.

The tiger that shouldn't be....is.... ((Go check out page 179, near the bottom, a post of mine explaining about the marks. But whatever. It's not a hard plot hole to smooth over. I can twitch things and make it work.))
Raevyn put his palm against Ashriel's, lining up their markings and entwining their fingers. "I told you before about this Ashriel." He told her quietly. "Were's don't choose their mates. The Fates do. And they show us by marking us. Every set of markings is unique but the two markings in a pair are identical." The tiger that should be....isn't....

Ashriel looked at Raevyn quietly, not sure what to say. "No, I get that...I just don't understand what it means for us." She said softly, not sure what to think. Her eyes were on their hands, and she was sure that she might cry from happiness.

Raevyn on the other hand, looked very serious. "You have a choice to make Ashriel. That's what it means." Whatever she decided, it would affect him for the rest of his life. "The decision always lies with the female. You have three weeks to decide. Think about Ashriel. Don't just answer yes. I want you to think about this." The tiger that should be....isn't....

Ashriel nodded quietly. It seemed to be something that she wanted, but she didn't know everything about it yet. "Raevyn...could you explain the ritual? I think...I think I'll need to consider it to." She asked softly, not sure exactly what to think. Knowing what she knew so far, she couldn't think of any cons among the many pros, but...she had to hear everything.

The tiger that shouldn't be....is.... Raevyn moved to sit on the bed, pulling Ashriel with him and settling her in his lap. "The ritual itself isn't hard. I'll explain that if you decide to go through with this. It's the consequences you need to think about. If you do this, it's permanent. Nothing but death will break it. I'll be the only one you can ever bear children with. And I........will literally be pretty much neutered if you walk away from this." If chosen mates decided not to mate, they still would never be able to bear anyone else's children. Females could still have sex though, which was better than the males. "While you won't be punished for being a knowing human anymore, there are still some who attack mates, particularly those of the Arcadians. My life is not a danger free one. I will never truly be safe. I can give you some measure of security, but your life will never be normal." He told her, looking sorrowful. The Were world was not a nice or pretty one. It was bloody and violent. The tiger that should be....isn't....

Ashriel looked up at Raevyn, thinking quietly. She wasn't sure what to think, at this point. So far, it really seemed like there were more pros than cons. And...outside of this... She'd pretty much made a decision at that moment. Although, she would have to give it a short while before she found out whether or not she was certain. "It seems like the logical decision..." She muttered quietly, forgetting that he could hear her muttering. Jennalin was just barely touching their heads - just enough to hear what was going on, and to make sure that she wasn't going to interrupt. Ashriel wouldn't notice, and Raevyn was likely too distracted to notice as well.

The tiger that shouldn't be....is.... Raevyn shook his head. "Ashriel. Listen to me. You can still walk away right now. The only consequence you'll have is you'll never bear your own children. But you can adopt. Find yourself a nice man and have a normal life, free from all this danger." Raevyn, though it would hurt - and hurt badly - to let her go, wanted her to be aware of everything. She had to know what she was losing by doing this. So focused on Ashriel, he didn't notice Jennalin's presence though he would have any other time. The tiger that should be....isn't....
