Riley folded his legs and averted his eyes from Calista. He didn't need the help getting back to his room. When mom got like that, it gave him plenty of reason to go hide. "...'cuz it's the closest I'm going to get to having cool powers and being like you guys...." he muttered.
Adrian sighed as he went in to calm Amaya down. "Watch, I'm sure it's just a phase he's going though." he assured her as he gently massaged her shoulders to help with the calming process. "You know what they say, boys will boys."

"Riley..." Cali sighed as she took a seat next to him on the bed. "Just because you haven't gotten your powers yet doesn't mean you'll never get them. I've never been allowed to use mine except for designing sets and stuff for plays at school, even then mom's there watching me like a hawk." She muttered. Sitting there in silence for a few moments, Cali rested her elbows on her knees and her head on her hands. "Did I ever tell you how I got my powers early?" Cali murmured, knowing no one had told him past she went through a traumatic experience.
"When Sikes thought I had powers, he got mom and made her go down in the arena. When I got there I just saw a bunch of big mutates up against mom, and the lights were on high so she couldn't use her powers. Sikes made me watch them beat mom until she couldn't even stand, and then they were going to kill her. I got scared and before I knew what happened, I had imagined my dad showing up to save my mom, and then he was real." She told him softly, never actually looking at him as she recounted the tale. "My point is...mom and dad are happy you don't have powers yet, and so am I, because that means you got to grow up like a normal kid. And hey, if you give it two or three more years, you may have powers anyway. I know daddy hurt a lot when his wings and horns grew. Just wait, because you don't know what you're going to get. It could be super cool, or it could hurt at first. Either way, it's better to wait it out." Cali told him with a small smile.
"Well when is it going to stop Adrian? Pyromaniacs weren't really common when I was in school. Boys in my class usually saved all the playing with fire for after school, not in class." Amaya muttered as she swallowed her pills, gripping the sink as she looked out the window.

"I don't wanna grow up normal though!" Riley whined. "I wanna grow up like you guys! I don't wanna be some black sheep normal kid coming from an all mutate family!" He hadn't told anyone except the teachers, but he was starting to get teased for it.
"Keep in mind they haven't all been fire-related." Adrian muttered as he took her hand, gently rubbing it to help calm her down once he pried it from the sink. "There was the soda in the sprinkler system, gluing the drawers of his teacher's desk shut, and let's not forget the stink bomb in the air ducts. Just to name a few."

"No one said you're going to be normal forever Riley. Just because you haven't gotten your powers yet doesn't mean you're never going to get them. But do you really want to grow up the way mom and dad did?" Calista asked with a small frown.
"Yeah and the school didn't think any of them were very funny." Amaya muttered. "I don't know what we're supposed to do." She sighed, leaning her back into Adrian's chest as she stood there.

((My lack of creativity with school pranks led me to looking some up online. Some of them I refrained from even thinking about because they were too mean, like tacks on the teacher's chair or hiding a match in a piece of chalk.))
"You know what I mean! I wanna grow up like you at least!" Riley said before crawling around behind her and trying to push her off his bed. "Now go on and get outta here! No girls allowed!"
"Scold him, punish him, and hope for the best is about all we can do." Adrian said as wrapped his arms around her in a hug.

((Oh dear...))
Cali sighed, standing up as she shook her head. "Alright, alright fine." She muttered, walking out of the room now. She headed off to her own room to go do her homework and then get ready to go out for a few hours with friends.
"None of that's been working though..." Amaya groaned. She was reaching the end of her rope at this point. Riley didn't even have powers and he was driving her up the wall.

((Yeah. But fear not, I'm going for a harmless prankster not an a*****e one that includes pain.))
Once Cali left the room he ran up to close the door behind her and lock it. It couldn't really keep his mom out, but at least his dad and sister couldn't come in then. "Stupid mutate gene thingy....Why won't you hurry up and kick in already, or whatever it is you do?" Riley muttered as he picked up the apple Cali gave back to him and took a bite while he dug through his backpack. After pulling out a notebook he flopped down on his bed and set to doodling.
"Well what else can we do? Send him to boarding school for a last ditch effort?" Adrian suggested, though he had a feeling that would get shot down.

((lol good))
"No, that won't do anything for him..." Amaya sighed. She just wanted him to do well in school and not keep getting in trouble. "I'd just like for him to stop doing all this stuff..."

"Might as well go talk to him..." Amaya murmured, feeling her drugs kick in now. She kissed Adrian on the cheek before sinking into the shadows, reappearing in Riley's room. "You know we have to talk." She sighed, sitting on the bed as she looked at him.

"GAH!!" Riley scrambled back away from his mom and up against the wall at her sudden appearance. "Mom, don't do that!! At least warn me when you're gonna do that!" he snapped.

Amaya rolled her eyes, patting the bed next to her. "You're young. Your heart will recover." She said. "If not, you'll at least have fodder for therapy." She muttered. "But seriously, sit down. We need to talk."

((I'm pretty sure this entire family is in need of therapy. XD ))
Riley pouted, averting his eyes from Amaya before he scooted over.

((Most likely. xp ))
"Why do you keep pulling these pranks at school? I know you think they're funny, but you could have started a big fire and hurt someone today." Amaya sighed as she looked at him, knowing he didn't want to look at her.

"They were just some little sparklers, they weren't gonna hurt anybody...." Riley said as he kept his eyes firmly on the wall away from Amaya.
