"You were fools to even consider traveling at this time of year..." the beast muttered gruffly as he turned away from the door, leaving it open that small crack in an unvocalized invitation inside. "You shouldn't take the winter season so lightly." he said pulling his excessive cloak tighter around him to remain hidden as he lead Adriane to a quaint den, assuming she picked up on the hint and followed. It was a cozy little room filled with books and a fireplace already crackling away.

Adriane walked in and closed the door. "We weren't traveling. We were taking a walk from my house. We often do that this time of year," she said softly. She crossed her arms and huffed. She then felt the warmth of den and smiled a little. "Thank you for letting me in.." she said. She walked over to the fire and sat on the hearth, sticking out her frozen hands and felt the warmth seep into them. "I was beginning to doubt that this castle was even here anymore...

"This castle's been here far longer than you think. Warm yourself up for now and I'll have a room prepared for you." Lucien said gruffly on his way out before stopping in the doorway. "You're welcome to make yourself at home, but I'd advise you not to wander off. This castle is quite large and we wouldn't want you getting lost." With those words of warning and advice he left to clean one of the guest rooms. It had been years since any of them had been touched and were in need of a good dusting before anyone could use them.

Adriane nodded. She stood up from the fire and started to look at the bookshelves. There was a small collection of very old books. She smiled. Adriane found comfort in knowing that there was at least some kindness left in the beast. Then she scolded herself for thinking such thoughts. It can't be the beast, she thought. That was over two hundred years ago! There's no plausible way that he could still be alive. Those are just old stories that grandmas tell their grandchildren to scare them. She rubbed her arms and looked at a few other books. But, what else would explain it? I mean...There shouldn't of been anyone here to let me in. And he wears that cloak. What's he got to hide. And that eye! I've never seen eyes like that before. "I wish Zil was here," she whispered aloud. "He'd know what to think.."

"You're welcome to read them if you'd like. Nothing in this old castle gets as much use as it used to. And I can at least supply you with a map of the area to help find your friend." Some time later, Lucien returned to stand in the doorway, cloak still wrapped tightly around him as he watched Adriane scan the shelves. "Your room is ready. If there's anything else I can do for you, I hope you won't hesitate to ask."

"If its not a bother for you, a cup of tea would be nice..." said Adriane softly. She pulled a few books from the shelves and nodded. She started to follow the cloaked figure who had let her into his home. "I'm sorry, but I've completely forgotten my manners. My name is Adriane...Adriane Hawkner..." She tried to smile at the person leading her up the stairs.

"Lucien will suffice." he said cooly before opening the door to her room. "The winter winds have a habit of making their way through the windows at night. I'll return with some extra blankets for you as well, should you need them." he bowed his head slightly before making his exit once more. Dealing with this girl made him feel so conflicted. On the one hand it had been so long since he last had company, but on the other hand he was a monster. A beast. She'd hate him, and besides that she had her own life back in the village. She had no reason to stay with him beyond this one night.

"Thank you, Mr. Lucien, for all of your help," said Adriane. She looked up and out of the window, hoping to spot a bit of red hair. She pulled her knees to her chest and started to read one of the books after wrapping herself in a blanket. She was determined to stay up until she saw Zil. That was out of the question for as soon as she got comfortable, she dozed off with her head on the windowsill.

When Lucien returned later with a thick blanket draped over one arm and a tea tray in his hands, decked out with an elegant tea cup filled with piping hot tea, and a dainty little bowl of sugar and pitcher of milk. Seeing Adriane already asleep, however, forced him to let out a gruff sigh. Setting the tray on the room's dresser, he then walked over to drape the blanket around the girl's shoulders before quietly leaving the room and carefully closing the door behind him.

((All I can say is poor guy..)) Adriane woke up an hour later, feeling something heavy on her shoulders. She looked to see a heavy blanket. She tugged it tighter and got up to drink the tea. It was the perfect temperature now and she sipped it quickly after putting in some milk and a cube of sugar. She shivered as the heat went straight to her bones and radiated outward. She crawled back onto the bed, searching the white darkness for any sign of Zil.

((Then I am doing my job well and have not lost my touch for writing ANGST.))
After delivering the tea and blanket, Lucien returned to the tower he'd been watching the blizzard from earlier. It had become a small, sad sanctuary of sorts. One of old memories and regrets. Adriane seemed fine for now and returned to hiding alone for the rest of the night. If she needed him, she'd probably wander around and find him eventually, but he wasn't terribly worried.

Zil looked straight at the lady for a moment, admiring her beauty and thinking 'Wow, she's glowing' without even realizing that he could see right through her until the next moment and... wait for it... Zil felt chills going down his spine as he noticed all of the supernatural characteristics of his savior, pushing himself back with his hands. He widened his eyes, shaking as he began to cry out, "White lady! White lady! Get away from me." He said in an almost comical and clumsy panic, stumbling to his feet and backing into the wall of the crevice.
((OOC: ...I hate time zones. Also, I just realized that this looks a lot like the plot of Beauty and the Beast *face palm* I feel like a nitwit. XD ))

{Only difference is that this one didn't have a happy ending. :3 Well, that, and I'm thinking their romance wasn't based around a decision Beauty's nonexistent father made or Stockholm syndrome. I hope. Still love the fairytale, though.}
Luminette couldn't help but giggle at the boy's late realization. Nevertheless, she stopped in her tracks, just in a small attempt to prove her lack of vengeful violence stereotypically held by spirits. "Don't get so worked up. I'm not here to swallow your soul or grind your bones into bread, or adhere to any other silly myth you might come up with." Her tone of voice was warm, yet also quite clearly amused. She crossed her arms and seemed to stand there, just waiting for the male to voice or act out his next response.

Before the woman had begun to speak, Zil had already started throwing pebbles and rocks at her in a futile attempt to 'defend himself' and this frustrated him as nothing happened and he continued to tremble until she began to speak. "Y-You mean it?" He then began to wonder what she could be. 'Maybe she's a wish-granting fairy', he thought to himself and quickly thought up what he wanted most at that moment and vocalized it, stuttering, with his eyes closed. "I-I-I wish Adriane were here!"

This prompted another fit of laughter from Luminette. After several moments she spoke somewhat teasingly, "I can't just summon your girlfriend out of nowhere. I'm dead, not a miracle worker. I can, however, help you to live long enough to see her again." Luminette snickered once more, positioning herself to where she seemed to sit atop the snow - her pale visage untouched and unaffected as each flake fell from the sky. "Now, are you going to keep cowering in there? Or do you plan on surviving these Winters longer than I did?"
