JACOB

The one behind you is suddenly holding two swords as a circular piece of metal floats in the air around him, and the one with the bow has an arrow nocked and ready to fire seemingly out of nowhere. The arrow itself seems to have leaves instead of feathers and has no head - instead, it is a sharpened stake. "Strange. We mean to do ye much harm if ye hand not over ye Runes in short order."

ZIL

You get several strange looks from the villagers at your strange behavior as you walk down the street and into the inn. The innkeeper - who appears to also be the barman, from his mode of dress - looks up at you and places the bit of silvery jewelry he was fiddling with back on his wrist. "In't the time of year for travelers, no it in't. Still, not one to trace a seam on a gift Rune I in't. W's y'poison?"

The difference between the good guys and the bad guys

Biting his tongue somewhat Jacob glared at the one with the arrow as he looked back towards the man behind him. A physical rune that was useless thanks to his own on him so for now he could keep him at his back. The one infront of him was currently the one that was most troublesome. He had been right on his assumption on what it was being an elemental by the look of it. The arrow tho seemed like nothing more then a sharpened twig with a leaf on the end which didn't seem like it would fly very well. Reaching slowly into his pocket Jacob pulled out his orb as he held it in his hands as he looked at it for a moment.

"What are my runes going to do for you anyways this is one pretty much useless and outside of getting a ring that can rot fruit there not going to do you any good" he said tossing the orb a few feet infront of him between him and the man with the arrow. A sudden movement would likely be able to catch the man with the arrow off guard enough to get in a few hits if he rushed him and his shield he could throw up to block the other man's blades. He just needed to see what this one infront of him would do with one of his runes on the ground.

Zil watched the man, looking quite aloof as he tried to sense the movements of the others. 'Poison? He means liquor, right?', he thought to himself, his mind a little clouded by the need to satisfy one's appetite. Zil put his hands on the table. "Ain't it too early to be drinking at this hour? Some bread and water, if you please", he said trying not to sound too strange even if that plan will inevitably fail. He was yet to find out what kind of currency these people would require. Perhaps from that, he could figure out where he was and what he was doing there. Still, he was in no mood to be overly agreeable. Entertainment at its finest was not a consequence to a man both tired and hungry. Besides, "puke-free since '93" is a record best left unbroken.

Lenore's intuition took the better of her and she walked the path much taken. She didn't know where it lead, she didn't know where she was, and she didn't know what to do other than follow this road wherever it commanded her feet to voyage. She licked her lips, her golden eyes glancing around the barren plot of land she was put in and then down at herself. She was wearing her flannel pajamas, the same as what she had worn to bed the night before. This, Lenore deducted that she was surely dreaming.
She must be for this place was too much to be reality. Forcing herself to believe that much kept Lenore sane for the time being and she walked without much thought other than how weird her imagination must've been to imagine such a place. Believing this place was a figment and creation of her own imagination aided in her denial.

She looked at the intricate cup, her fingers playing with the mouth of the brim. She was thirsty and tired and weary. She walked more, pausing twice to look forward and then behind her, but she saw no end to no avail. She sighed, looking down at the first ring. It was a plain ring, with a black lining to it. It fit perfectly on her finger, oddly enough, and looked nice against her tanned hand. The next was much more simple, and that too fit perfectly on her finger. She wiggled them, the cool silver shining and basking in the sun. It, however, was the cup that drew her attention the most. She very desperately wanted to drink now, looking at the cup thirstily, and looked around for a source of water. She closed her eyes, thinking she might as well try to imagine one since this WAS her dream, and thought hard about some sort of source of water. But when she opened her eyes, she saw not a body of water like she had hoped. This disappointed her, and she began to walk again out of frustration. She couldn't possibly die of dehydration in her own dream, now could she?

JACOB

The one holding the bow nods and you see a spindly arm stretch out past you and pick the orb up with surprising speed, carrying it back to the bandit holding the two swords. "S'valuable, 'd say. An' if he uses this f'r distractin', what'd be the real loot then?"

ZIL

The barman nods and draws a tap of something golden-brown liquid and retrieves a loaf of soft bread, sliding the plate and mug towards you. "In't no Crowns gon' be asked nor paid f'r this. Bit a'help inna fields'd be mos' welcome, tho'."

LENORE

After some time walking, you come to a cliff overlooking a large freshwater lake. The cliff slopes down on either side to a smooth shoreline on the opposite side of the lake, which is bordered by a forest on the right.

Lenore stretched, content in actually coming across something in her rather boring dream. She tried her best in climbing down the slope without falling, which she failed in seven times. Her hands were already getting blistered, which hurt, surely. It made her wonder why it hurt so much if all this were to be a dream. She shrugged to herself and took her time getting to the shore of the lake. Seeing as how she had a nice cup anyways, she bent near the still water to dip the cup inside. She watched the cup cradle the clear water, biting her lip. She knew drinking lake water was the worst, since drinking still water was unsanitary and sometimes deadly. But because this was her dream, once again it iterated her belief in her immortality. She titled her head back, taking a sip from her nice little cup.

The water, however, tasted drastically different from what she imagined it would taste like. She coughed, choking on the water before sticking out her tongue. "Nasty..."

Zil began to eat heartily when he got the plate and mug. He understood from this circumstance that the barman was not some boss guy with the gun-slinging and the throwing people out of the bar gigs. He did, however (in Zil's mind), sound the part. He contemplated where he heard 'crowns' before being used as a currency. 'I'm pretty sure that's the currency in some European countries. Hmm... Sweden? Norway? Oh heck, Zil. Just enjoy the food, will you?', he thought to himself, finishing the bread. He tasted the golden-brown stuff in the mug. It didn't taste too bad. It was pretty good, actually. Ginger ale? He was not sure. He hadn't tasted ale in the world before this one so he wasn't quite sure. When he was beginning to feel satisfied, he looked up at the barman and said gratefully, "Thanks so much, my good man. You don't know what this means to me." When he heard the part about field work though, he said with much enthusiasm, " Sure! Why not? Just lead the way."

The difference between the good guys and the bad guys

That makes three for him Jacob thought standing there as he thought about his Runes with a bit of a small sigh judging the distances between each of the people around him. Rubbing the side of his ring a few times Jacob sighed a bit looking at the other man. He couldn't get out of this without a fight and had no intent to give up his runes. Turning to face the man behind him Jacob held a rather disappointed look as he lifted his hand up rubbing the ring again as the Helican barrier appeared around just the two of them.

"I am going to have to ask you to give me back that orb" he said simply watching the man's movements. He was likely to attack with a combo one hand holding a blade and stretching to cover the distance between them. With weapons the man likely felt superior and would simply make a mistake in his confidence. That was the opening that Jacob was watching for. "Hand it over and I will be on my way" he said his voice holding no strength behind it nor force. He didn't want to resort to violence if he didn't need to. He would tho need to this lot was all the same. Mindless brutes that try to pick on the weak to further there own ego's and bolster there so called status in the world.

JACOB

The bright blue barrier created by the Helican springs up around the two of you, and ripples strongly for a moment as the arrow fired off by the second highwayman is absorbed by the barrier. The highwayman looks just the tiniest bit nervous as he looks at the barrier and back at you. "Nope."

Without any further warning, the man drops one of his swords and sprouts four extra arms that reach out for you. The arms are not thin like the one that grabbed the orb earlier, rather they seem strong enough to easily break bones.

ZIL

The barman points out the door and starts cleaning the plate and mug. "In't hard t'find, no it in't. Look 'round ou'side, ask one o' them that has a Copial."

LENORE

A vivid purple stalk topped by two eyes rises from the lake and stares at you as you choke the water from your throat. It considers you for a moment, then one of the eyes splits open vertically and speaks in a comically-ridiculous Southern accent: "Wut'chu want?"

The difference between the good guys and the bad guys

Good as he had thought there was more to the man besides just one arm. As the arms came towards him as he activated the dancing shield necklace. He had only a chance to do this and needed to wait for the right time. As the arms were reaching towards him Jacob went down low dropping to a running stance as he rushed forwards him low to get under his grasp. He ducked his shoulder to slam into him full force. He needed to knock him off his feet to likely get the advantage in this situation.

Lenore spit her water out, falling back on her butt as she watched the purple-thing speak to her in such a fashion. She was scared at first, not recognizing what the creature was at all. It had no familiarity about it, no recognizable traits to call it any particular sort of animal. Lenore was ultimately confused, the 'alien' foreign to her. Its voice was accented, with which Lenore quickly picked up on. The accent was sort of funny, and because the creature said it so casually and oddly, it came off as sort of comical if not threatening at all.. "Am I really just all imagining this? I sure do have a lot of creativity," she murmured, running a hand through her hair as she laughed at the creature. She stood, dusting herself off. With her curiosity, Lenore took a stance and gave the purple stack a dominant gaze. "I only wanted a sip of this water. What does it matter to you what I want?" She barked, naturally a person to project such confidence.

"Damn it Jerry, that is the last time I let you drag me to your cousin's crazy parties, and I don't care how hot she is." Virgil groaned as he got to his feet then paused, looked around and began breathing in deep to keep from freaking out. He definitely was NOT in Kansas anymore, he wasn't from Kansas in the first place, but it was an expression. Not long after he managed to chill the hell out, Virgil noticed several items on the ground that seemed like they were his. A couple of rings, a bracelet with a key and some kind of ball or sphere, whatever, the sooner he found civilization, the quicker he could go home and sacktap his friend into oblivion.

Zil leaned in curiously. "I'm sorry. What? A copial?", he asked. He wondered if the thing was edible or a physical feature or something. It did not sound at all like something he was likely to know. He then tried to deduce the things he had encountered in this world. It could be a... What were they called again? He rubbed the silver ring on his finger. Oh, that's right. A rune. He asked, "Is it some kind of rune?"

JACOB

The man is knocked backwards by your short-range charge and flies backwards through the barrier, appearing behind you as he falls prone. His head hits a rock that had been behind you and he brains himself on it, his eyes glazing over as he perishes. With the death of the secondary target, the Helican barrier starts to waver. You have perhaps ten seconds before it vanishes completely.

ZIL

The barman pauses in his cleaning of your dirty dishes and looks at you for several seconds. "You in't from 'round here, no you in't. Come o'er here f'r a moment."

LENORE

A large eyelid narrows around the eye that is not split open into a mouth, and the mouth-eye speaks again. "Yu in mah lake, git'chu reezun 'r git'chu gone."

VIRGIL

You stand in the middle of a field of wild grass that easily rises to your waist. Gentle hills roll away into the distance, and you see the grass begin to turn into scrubland and eventually into desert as you look to the east. In matter of fact, it looks rather like Kansas.
