She seems like someone that feels that, since you have your big boy pants on, you have to start being super serious and can't spend your money on silly things that make you happy. I sat buy it just to spite her. Or, you know, drop the ban hammer because you don't need that kind of negativity in your life. Okay, banning might be a tad bit extreme, but you should totally buy it out of spite...

My common sense says that so long as you can afford it, in addition to bills and the like, and if your spouse doesn't mind then it should be fine.

Just because a person gets married doesn't mean that that person should give up all of their hobbies. There isn't a time limit on liking something. I mean of course when you are married you have to budget for insurance, housing, cars, children (if they are or will be in the picture), groceries, retirement and what not. I mean it's wonderful to spend your money on your significant other but it shouldn't be a requirement. There's probably something wrong with your relationship if you require monetary gifts as proof of love.

Imma go with no. As much as I like Star Trek, I had a lot of those magazine/model collection subscriptions when I was a kid and they were often pretty disappointing.
