My mood today:
Just been either irritated with anyone consistently bugging me... or just emotional because things aren't going the way I hoped they would.

Hello everyone.
It looks like I haven't posted here in awhile. Not too surprised considering we had our Thanksgiving event here at the Assisted Living last Saturday and then Sunday I had attended Kumoricon. So, this is the first time I've actually had a moment to log in.

Kumoricon was a lot of fun. Since I went on Sunday - the last day of the convention, there wasn't much going on, so it was pretty calm and relaxing. I was able to attend everything I wanted without feeling like I was rushing around to do stuff.
I cosplayed as Crowley (from Good Omens), making Kumoricon its first con appearance. It was well received by everyone. I can't wait to get copies of the photos taken at the free Charity Photobooth and from the Good Omens photoshoot/meetup.

Wednesday, while I was doing my socialization shift at the animal shelter, I received a call from the director at the assisted living I work at informing me that the resident cat Austin hadn't been doing well the past couple days. The director was making the official decision to take Austin to the vet to help her cross the rainbow bridge peacefully rather than continue suffering. Thankfully, my schedule was open, so I was able to leave my shift a tad bit early ((and cancel doing my ISO socialization)) and meet up with the director and activities supervisor to take Austin to the vet, and be there as she crossed over.
It was an extremely emotional time for all of us because we've all grown quite close to her. Between being 19 years old and having kidney disease (officially diagnosed only a few months prior), it was only a matter of time for the occasion to occur... but still doesn't make it easier. Many of the residents weren't happy about the director's decision, believing Austin would bounce back. But from holding her before going to the vet, I knew it was time; she was already on her way to the bridge.

This weekend has been hard. I keep finding myself pausing at moments as a pang of grief crosses my thoughts and I try to maintain my composure as I keep doing my tasks. "Whenever I tried doing this, she would walk across..." "Austin would've hopped up and meowed at that person passing by..." "Oh... I don't have to worry about making loud noises using the paper cutter anymore..." So on and so forth...
It's weird not having my feline work companion around.

Sure, I still have the blue parakeet with me ((a pet of a former resident we're caring for until his owner is able to set up something at the new place he's living at)) but it's not the same. Gomez - that's the bird's name - still hasn't gotten used to me enough to allow me to touch or hold him. But he's gotten used to me enough that I can stand by his cage without him puffing up anymore... and he'll hop closer towards me now.

One of the best parts about Kumoricon is that I was able to get a picture with my new friend in her Aziraphale cosplay. In fact, because we ended up having an equal number of Aziraphales and Crowleys at the photoshoot/meetup, she ended up being my Aziraphale. heart

Every year Kumoricon does a special little bingo scavenger hunt for attendees to do. There's various characters attendees have to get pictures of cosplayers doing. What's funny is this year Aziraphale and Crowley were one of the options. I didn't even realize it until a day or two ago when an attendee commented about getting a blackout on their bingo chart. I don't even bother doing the bingo thing, so I wouldn't have known anyway. Especially since I totally bypassed grabbing a book this time around. (Why bother when I've got the digital version? Not to mention, I didn't even need it when there was only 3 events I was going to.)

Just a resident get upset because someone's been trying to reach her in her room and basically was trying to blame it on me, despite informing her I haven't made any calls to her today and it was probably Nursing. Like seriously... don't get mad at the innocent party when they've made it quite clear on who was behind the calls.
And if you know people are trying to reach you, then respond if you're in the room. We're not going to announce who we are specifically to an empty room.
