English is not my native language, so I can't be sure, but I believe that "peoples" doesn't really mean anything. It is an incorrect form of the word. Anyway, I haven't seen it in any book or anywhere like that...

It's a word meaning something like 'multiple cultures' or something.

I'm afraid that, whilst you answered the second riddle correctly, the answer to the first is not, in fact, a carriage.

Yes. Coal, at least a long time ago, used to be used to keep a house warm, and after having sat in the fire would be put at the feet (for those who were richer) in special pans during the night to keep one's feet warm.
