- they did not know the victim.

The fight was to the death, and the murderer didn't want to be caught, so he knocked the guy out, and he got amnesia, and....

My answer would be that they took a dead body with them and dropped it off near their vacation spot and waited for it to be decomposed so they wont get caught?
