"Normally I'd be telling you not to get involved with a guy like me. But like I said, I gotta repay my debts. That, and I'm a sucker for a good looking woman." Van said giving her a wink. "Don't hesitate to give me a ring. Assuming I'm not dealing with "business" of course. Take us home, Lenny." he said as he rolled up the window before the limo rolled away.

Mala nodded once more before turning around and heading inside the skyscraper. She couldn't wait to just plop down on her bed and get some sweet, sweet sleep. After the events and ordeals she faced that day, one honestly couldn't blame her. As she stood inside the elevator, waiting for it to finally reach the top, she thought of Van and his timely rescue. He admitted to being a criminal, yet he didn't seem all that terrible. A bit flirtatious, but not a horrible person in the least... How odd.

Van's penthouse was waiting for him once he emerged from the elevator, waving his men to go on their way before he headed inside. Business was done for the day and the debt he was in lingered in his mind. Before settling in, he hung his suit jacket up on a coatrack that stood next to the door, topped with a fedora he never wore, but his father insisted he have. His father was rather old fashioned that way. "Mala Dubois, huh?" he said to himself as he loosened the black tie around his neck and let his hair down. "Can't wait to see what a dame like that is going to have me doing." he mused to himself with a grin as he plopped down on his couch and snuffed his cigarette out in an ash tray sitting on the coffee table while he put his feet up.

Mala, as she intended to, entered the bedroom of her penthouse and plopped down on her mattress as soon as she could. She knew very well that she wouldn't be falling asleep, with so much on her mind and all. Still, just laying there and relaxing for a few hours would do her plenty of good. (Not to mention she still wanted to ponder many important factors in todays events, especially those regarding Van himself.) It wasn't like she could use her one favor to ask him to quit crime. Other than that, though, nothing of importance truly came to mind as of yet.

"Yeah....Yeah, I got it....I'm on my way now, so just cool it. Just try to get 'im under control until I get there.....Look, if he gets too rowdy, just eh, get creative with him if you get my drift." Van supported his phone with his shoulder as he got dressed again after having just gotten ready for bed. "....Well I don't know, you're a gangster, use your imagination! You know how chloroform works!" Whoever was on the other end was starting to tick him off. "Just don't kill the guy, I hope you know that much. If you're not up to it, tell Tom to get on it and you and me will have words later, got it?" he said before hanging up and leaving, Jack and the other lackey already waiting for him by the elevator.

{I am in love with your signature. It is pure brilliance.}
Eventually, Mala came to realise that she was not about to fall asleep any time soon. As she ran out of things to ponder, she sat herself back up once more, figuring that she might as well get something useful done soon. Work a little over time, maybe? Check up on her brother? If neither, she could simply go for a walk around town or something. It wasn't like Luther would have his eyes following her so closely, right?

(Nah, I can work with this. It actually makes a bit more sense on my end anyway. xD I'll go back and edit in a sec.)
"Why do I keep letting utter morons join?" Van grumbled to himself as he rubbed the bridge of his nose while he headed for his business. It was tucked away in the bad side of town, a crummy little building with a closed sign hanging in the window. Unless you were part of underground culture, in which case it was the hidden casino of the Tyrell family. It was a small club actually underground the building that held the bare essentials for any gambling circuit. A blackjack table, a roulette table, a poker table, and of course there was the bar. Van was usually hanging around as the manager, except on days like today when he had other more immediate business to take care of. But even then some drunken shmuck would cause trouble and some poor excuse for a goon would call him and drag him down.

{I apologize profusely for my inactivity. I believe I've told you about my sister and a little bit about how stressful dealing with her can be. If not, well, it's enough to leave me feeling hollow about everything even during the glorious time in which her a** is out of the house for a few weeks. Again, I apologize. If I am taking too long for comfort with my replies, feel more than free to pester me via PM's or whatever.}
As you can imagine, things could not truly progress very far with Mala unless she left her penthouse. She soon found herself back on the streets, casually strolling along in her business heels as she contemplated on what she could do to pass the time until it was time for work. Sleep was impossible, as was finding absolutely any form of interest in whatever garbage was currently playing on the television. Perhaps she could go to some bar and try a little bit of alcohol? She had heard so much about it, yet never really bothered to try any herself. As you can imagine, despite having such a successful career and strong book smarts, she was hopelessly stupid in regards to more...lowbrow and/or casual situations.

((S'all good. I will try to refrain from prodding unless absolutely necessary though, otherwise I feel like an impatient nag that can't go three days without a reply. >_> ))
"Kinda late for a stroll, don't you think?" Stopped at a red light as Mala walked past was Van's limo, his near trademark cocky smile showing from the other side of the rolled down window. "A pretty little thing like yourself is just asking for trouble at this time of night, and your chances are only going to double if you wander too much further. Every city's got a hive of scum and villainy somewhere."

{If I ever go past three days, please PM me. It's not being impatient at that point. It's my being lazy or my not paying enough attention and I need to be nagged at that point.}
"Ah, hello again, Van." Mala offered the man a small and polite smile. Her cheeks were reddened slightly, though only because of the compliment he played her. It was still odd to hear someone else reffer to her as 'pretty' when they weren't trying hard for a raise. "Thank you for the warning. Since you seem to know this place quite well, do you happen to know anywhere decent I could relax at this time of night? I'm afraid there's not much for me to do back home for the moment being..." It was a wonder she hadn't been kidnapped sooner.

"Well, while I can't speak for the people present, I might know a place..." Van said checking his watch briefly. "I've got some business to take care of there anyway. Hop in." he said opening the door for her and scooting over to make room.

Mala did as instructed, her face lighting up with the bright smile she now held. "Thank you very much." was all that she could think to say in reply. It was somewhat embarassing, yet not unexpected. After a few moments, she began to wonder just why was Van being so nice to her. Did lying for him truly mean that much?

"I know what you're thinking. What are we doing in hobo country?" Van said later after they left the limo and headed to his club. He walked alongside Mala, Jack walking ahead of them and lackey #2 was bringing up the rear. "Well, I wouldn't be quite so free if I were flashy all the time." he said holding open the rickety door to the run-down building with tinted windows to reveal a narrow, well-lit staircase leading down. The wallpaper was nowhere near tattered like the outer building, and images of gangster and casino paraphernalia and newspaper headlines hung framed all the way down. The staircase bottomed out a door with bright light leaking from the cracks with loud music, laughter, and general cheer sounding from the other side. "Might wanna watch your step." he said falling behind Mala, allowing only enough room to go down single file as he looked back at his secondary goon. "Lenny, once we get down there, show her around a bit, wouldja? Just while I deal with our troublemaker for the night, alright?" he muttered to Lenny and receiving a silent nod in response.
