I n e v e r loved anyone fully Always one f o o t on the ground ค ʂ r ɨ є ℓ " O randomly met one, what chance fortune may reunite us once more? " She winced at his words and abrupt dissapointment though she didn't need to look at him to feel his irritation. She hugged her knees tighter as he walked away, leaving her alone under the tree. Much like her dream, she supposed. Yet she did not cry nor feel bitter about it, she could only blame herself. She was scared of opening herself. Of speaking about her desires, of her complaints on her life, of her dreams. Asriel admired Alister for at least being able to get that far. She was at fault, she knew, but she couldn't get herself around to talk about it. She heard his horse speeding away and at last, she was alone in the beautiful clearing. She stretched out yet wasn't prepared to leave. She laid down on the grass, staring at the sky. Yet a day dream didn't come to her but a memory.
"Grandfather," Asriel went on, her face full of ignorant innocence and naivity. She was around fourteen at the time, she remembered. The stern man looked down upon her in disgust. She who looked so much like her mother, the daughter who betrayed him, yet with the eyes of a stranger, a commoner. "You'll adress me as Your Majesty. I will not have such ill-mannered people in my court." Asriel stepped forward, stopping when the guards gave her a glare. She held a hand to her chest. "I dislike living in that room. Staying there...it's killing me! Do you not love me? We share the same blood, do we not? I want to be free! I want to see the world unbound by stone walls! I want-" Asriel was cut short; the slap to her right cheek took the words right off her tongue. She held her hand to her cheek, a hurt expression from the sting of pain. Her eyes brimmed with tears as her grandfather reseated himself with an angered expression. "I will not have it! Not at all! I will not have such a weak, worthless person in my court! Who knew you to be such a selfish child? You are no blood to me! You are no blood to me! Get out of my sight!" Heartbroken, Asriel was led out of the room. She wiped at her tears, hating herself for being so stupid as to thinking such a way. To think that she actually had a chance of being freed from her chamber. The lock locked behind her. She turned quickly and began to bang on the walls, screaming. She only stopped when her hands got bloody and her throat began to hurt. No, she would not cry. She backed into the corner and stared out her window once more, longing to be outside. She watched the horizon set on the sun, her hope of leaving this tower dissapearing along with the last rays of the sun.
Asriel rolled over, the snout of the horse snorted in her face. She sat up, watching Bloom graze on the grass where her head was formally before patting its nose. She got up then, dusting herself off. She shouldn't have given a reason for Alister to get angry. Asriel climbed back on the horse, after several long minutes and moments of difficulty, she began riding again. If he really wanted to know, she'd tell him. Why hide the truth? Asriel felt a tad more at ease riding Bloom again who led her back to the stables. She slid off and headed back in the general direction of the castle, guessing at where the gardens were. After asking two maids where they were, she found herself back outside. The gardens weren't even that far from where she was in the first place and any normal human being could've easily found them if they had the right mindset. But, after all, Asriel was one that was quite stupid with directions. And by protecting my heart t r u l y Nothing to my h e a r t will it hound

He sighed softly and thought about how he had left and had contemplating on going back but he already chose. If she were to get hurt or taken away, he would take the blame since it was his fault and he would feel guilty. The gentle wind brushed the hair off his face, his hazel eyes glistening in the sun light. Once again, he watched as the clouds drifted off to another place in the world. He wondered what it would be like to lay on one and watch the lands past by. Alister grew absent minded as he stood there day dreaming and wondering like he usually did. The hag he spoke of early had gone somewhere that day so he knew he would be fine for now. Today, he could be at peace, even if that peace would last a minute. Whenever he went to the garden, servants knew to keep out and to leave him be since this was his place, his area of peace.
The hawk he had fed earlier flew over head, crying out a sound that he knew meant she was happy being up there in the sky. How he wished he could have wings and fly anywhere he wished. Though life here was great, he wanted something more that didn't mean it required money. He was blessed yet never cared much for it. Alister wanted to be a farmer who had many animals to tend to, and a family he could truly love. With a heavy sigh, he sat down on the bench and stared up at the sky still wondering and dreaming.

" "I wasn't lying when I said it was lonely," Asriel called in a soft tone, unsure of whether to interrupt his day dreaming. She had watched him for some time then, wondering what time was best for her to interrupt. "Or that it was boring. I just..." She paused. What was she trying to do by telling him what she did and what she was telling him now? "Didn't want to dishearten you from thinking ill of me or my country." Asriel came to sit next to Alister on the bench, glancing at him every couple minutes. "I...Was locked away in a tower all my life. All I could think now is how much of a fool the rulers of Demetria are, thinking that in their treaty they got a wealthy princess from rich lands when they actually got a worthless half-blood. My grandfather hated me so he put me in that tower; I couldn't leave so all I knew about the world was from books or what I could see from my window. I feel really bad for you; now you have to put up with me." Of course, Alister would know nothing about her being a half blood; that was a secret amongst the royal family. "So I don't know much about what 'home' is like. I'm sorry I can't answer your question correctly," she murmured meekly, looking to the floor. He sat there staring at the sky the whole time. It would seem that he wasn't paying attention but truly he was. At last he knew why, but a part of him still knew there was more. But she didn't have to say anything since rumors reach his kingdom too. Though no one knew about the kings daughter having a child with the commoner she was with, people still knew about Asriel's mother relationship. Now hearing that she had gone through, he pretty much guessed that her mother probably passes away and what not. He sighed and sat up straight and tore his glance away from the sky and settled it on the young woman sitting beside her.
"This will be something you and I keep to ourselves. If my mother catches wind that you're as you say, "worthless" then she'll tell my father and the war will be far worse then it was. There's no need having innocent people get hurt again so lets just keep this secret a secret. As for not knowing much about your home I can understand. I hardly know anything about mine...well when it comes to the political side. All I know is the forests and some of the villages to go to when you want to have a good time or if you want to meet nice people. Though I do want to know this, why did you never run away?" Alister looked at her and truly wanted to know. If he was her, he would have run away so long ago and fulfilled whatever dreams he had.

" Asriel gave a listless sigh, settling on leaning back on the bench rather than keep her posture. "I don't know. I couldn't, physically. Guards were kept everywhere and my window was barred. I was in a tower, high about the ground so its not like I could think about getting out any other way than the door, which was locked. But... I guess I didn't want to run away. Though I hated my desperation and how I've lived a life thus far, I couldn't find it in myself to runaway like my mother did. I had to be strong and face my problems. I didn't want to leave the place that my mother's remnants still existed in, I guess." She looked up at the sky like he had done moments prior. She could understand why he gazed up so longingly at it; it was beautiful. So wide and ever rolling, she only wished she had wings to soar through it. Yet, his words of secrecy comforted her. She felt that it brought them a tad closer; she felt that she could trust Alister. Asriel glanced at him then, whom was glancing at her and they stared at each other for a moment before Asriel looked back at the floor. "You don't like the war either? My grandfather was a war hawk; he strongly advocated offensive tactics. It was why he lost most of his battles and what makes him a bad chess player. I still wonder why he ever agreed to such a lasting treaty," she murmured, tapping her lips. And by protecting my heart t r u l y Nothing to my h e a r t will it hound

Once again, he stared up at the vast sky. "Only true villains like war. Many of the men I fought with fear for their lives and simply fought to stay alive, none them truly liked the idea of killing another man. Being in war is far worse then being an on looker. I'd rather gaze out that window you had to gaze out of your whole life then to gaze at the bloody fields. I didn't have to fight and be a part of the war, but it was the only way I could leave the castle and roam the world. I watched men go mad for killing so many people, and I watched men die, some died in my very arms. When you stare death in the eyes for so long," Alister paused and brought his gaze back at her.
"You no longer fear it. There were a couple of men who killed themselves after long battles just to get away from such a horrible event. I was there to help these knights, these men. I hope that I don't sound like I'm bragging, but without me, I'm sure we would have lost the war easily. I guess I gave them hope that once the war was over they would live in peace. Many spoke about how they thought I would be a better king, but I never paid to much attention to that. All I really wanted was the war to be over so I could roam about the countries without fear of being stabbed. A world of peace is far from our reach but I still hold on to that hope." He took in a deep breath and sighed as he finished speaking.

I n e v e r loved anyone fully Always one f o o t on the ground ค ʂ r ɨ є ℓ " O randomly met one, what chance fortune may reunite us once more? " She quieted then. His view on life was much different than hers. She admired it. For he looked out the window that was life in a different manner; as to shield himself from the cruel world rather than feeling like he was kept from it. She didn't say anything after awhile, maybe ten minutes or so until she stood then, straightening her uncomfortable skirts, and walked a little ways from Alister to look at some flowers. Irises caught her eye and she bent low to pet the delicate pedals with care before standing, looking at them. "I hope to never have my children live in times like these, where countries fight for power and of greed. I'm tired of all this fighting and even though how it went about surely was an unimaginable prospect for me," she had mentioned their marriage, "it stopped the fighting between our two countries for the time being. And...The treaty freed me from my prison," she noted on a happier thought and gave a soft smile. Throughout all the good and bad in the world, she could find it in herself to smile about such things. It was of her personality, to be optimistic. Yet she blushed when she talked about having children and negated her eyes. She didn't want to think about it, about that type of future involving Alister. It was embarrassing. And yet, the garden was so peaceful. It calmed her light blush and put her in a tender mood. To see that she had such a caring husband also lifted her mood, making her forget about the recent dreams she's been having momentarily. "As long as you're hopeful, I'm sure it can be acheived." She then went on to another set, roses it seemed, where she bent to smell its sweet scent. "This garden is well kept. Or at least I think so since I haven't seen another garden to compare it with," she admitted. And by protecting my heart t r u l y Nothing to my h e a r t will it hound

It's better to have them live their childhood safely because as adults they would understand more the concepts of war." Alister stood up and watched her pick the flowers, the very flowers he grew. He smiled lightly and walked around her until he stood on the other side of the bush, looking straight at her.
"I'm sure there are other gardens far better than mine, but I do what I can to keep it thriving." He chuckled lightly and glanced over to see a servant wishing to get his attention, and when she did, she gave him a couple signals he grew aware of. He gave a faint nod and cleared his throat. "Well, my mother wishes to have tea with you, I suppose that she wants to see if I've been a good husband thus far. She has taken a liking to you, far more then she has a liking for me, thats for sure." He chuckled again and walked over to her and held his arm for her to take since he figured he should escort her back. "No need for you to get lost."

I n e v e r loved anyone fully Always one f o o t on the ground ค ʂ r ɨ є ℓ " O randomly met one, what chance fortune may reunite us once more? " Asriel was a tad suprised. His mother liked her? Usually, any relative of the royal family looked down upon her for she was the shame of the country. She took his arm carefully, painfully aware that she was wedded to this man, and lowered her head. Whatever the case may be, she could only hope the conversation with his mother would be a good one. She heard that Alister's mother was strict; his father far more stricter. Tales of him in Eureka called him a brute. She could only imagine what might become of Alister himself yet kept quiet about it. Asriel felt very...awkward. For someone to be so accepting of her, and at this moment she gave a sideways glance to Alister, was surely a new experience for her. She thought, at the very least, he'd be disusted to have her as his wife, having to share the same bed with a foreigner. Asriel shivered. But Alister was very...pleasant. Her skepticism kept her guessing at him; that he might turn out bad and hurtful. She'd await that day. Yet, she was hopeful. The man Asriel was with right now reassured her she'd at least be welcomed momentarily.
As Asriel was escorted to Alister's mother, her mind began to wander. And by protecting my heart t r u l y Nothing to my h e a r t will it hound

His mind wondered a lot and slowly his mind was warping...like it always did whenever he saw his mother or father or whenever he thought of them. Soon enough, Asriel would see the side of him that she thought he was from the very beginning, but if she were to pay close attention, she would see that it was not his fault but that of his mother and father. Whenever he got around them or thought of them he would become an a**.
When they reached the parlor, he lead her in and locked eyes with his mother. His mother looked at Asriel with a kind smile, but when she looked at her son her look had become a bit colder and stern as if he had done something bad. He let Asriel's arm drop and stepped back, his nice caring facial expression now gone, a cold and uncaring face replacing it. "Try not to eat her alive with your words...or do, I don't care..." he muttered to his mother rather than greeting her properly. He turned away and simply walked out.
His mother, not surprised by his words simply swatted them away and told Asriel to sit. "Sit, sit my dear girl, ignore that foolish son of mine. Rather disgraceful boy." She spat out then smiled at Asriel and she gave her a look a mother would usually give to her child..one she neglected to give Alister but gave it to her daughter-in-law with ease.

With a sharp slip of the tongue, Alister had dissapeared. Was that how he was in front of his mother? How... She looked to his mother who seemed to treat her so differently than that of her own son. Quietly, Asriel seated herself across from the woman, avoiding eye contact with the queen. She lowered her head, as if to bow, as to show manners. "Good day to you..." She prolonged her sentence until she added quickly, "madam." Alister's mother seemed so cold to him; to see her kind eyes then made Asriel confused of ehr character. She could tell that Alister didn't care much for his mother; maybe it was because his mother, though Alister was second in line, always pressured Alister to be king. Nonetheless, Asriel decided to show her hospitality to this woman unless given a reason otherwise. "As for your son..." She paused in her speech then. What did she think of Alister? She surely didn't like him; though she found reasons to, as shown today, as to not hate him. She was not obligated to love that man. "`He has treated me with the most kindness he could manage to give me on our first day together. I understand he isn't the most friendly of people but he makes up for it with his wit," she muttered lightly. And by protecting my heart t r u l y Nothing to my h e a r t will it hound

She took up the cup of tea that was placed in front of them a couple seconds ago and took a small sip before setting it down. The silence was very awkward or rather intimidating for Asriel probably. The queen did not speak for a moment as she looked at the young woman in front of her as if trying to find a flaw in the girls appearance. When she was satisfied with what she saw she finally spoke again.
"Well then, for your sake and mine lets hope that boy keeps it up. He knows very well that we'll disown him if he ruins this treaty," She said, not really saying marriage, instead saying treaty. Thought she quickly fixed her mistake, "The marriage of course is of great importance. I would certainly not like to lose such a beautiful daughter-in-law. I always wished for a daughter but sadly I was not blessed with one. We had his brother, the heir and afterwards I hoped for a girl but alas I was given another boy." She sighed as if Alister had taken hope from her. That was one reason why she was so distant toward Alister...but it was a long story.
Again the room was silent as she took a couple more sips. "So then, how do you like this kingdom so far? Also, did that worthless boy of yours show you around the castle? I instructed him to do so today so now I'll ask you where everything is to see if he did." She looked at Asriel with a warm smile yet her eyes were stern as if she knew that Alister had failed to listen to her again.

It tasted terrible; she was unused to the tea here and missed the herbal teas of Eureka she was served with her modest meals alone in her room. Yet she presumed to hold her fake smile. "This country is so very different than my own," she murmured. She didn't say she liked it nor hated it clearly. Her last quesiton was odd and she looked down, not wanting to see this woman's dissapointment when Asriel would say no.
